Results from Doctor's visits....
« on: June 07, 2007, 12:05:29 pm »
Hello to all you sex kittens out there~~~

I had my visit to my ID doc yesterday. After having a hell of a time last week trying to find the order for my blood work. Funny how leaving one letter out of a person's name can change everything. Anyhoo....Due to the fact that the blood work didn't get done til Monday, I do not have the results back for my viral load. My cd4 went up a bit from 261 to 340 and my percentage went from 16 to 18 percent. My doctor is predicting that my viral load prolly went down a bit too. My diabetes is still wreaking havoc, it was 192 on a fasting draw. The nutritionist came in and spoke with me as well. Nice lady but wants me to start insulin shots, I'm not ready for that yet. But I did find out that the metformin I take is causing me to be very gassy among other things. And I plan on taking a diabetes class real soon. My tryglicerides were at 116 which I'm told is good. My hdls are still way too low and I'm a bit anemic which is nothing new. Kidney and liver functions , are just lovely. Finally some good news for a change.

Philly, you were right about the retinitis. According to the doctor, I have been exposed to it, levels were at 1.7 but still has to be checked next week.So ^5. And I even lost 3 pounds, don't know how that happened but I'm not knocking it. Now I am down to 164 and feeling sexy...j/k :D

It is always good to see your percentages climb. Good work.

Your blood sugar gives me pause, however. Do be careful hon.

Congratulations, Queen, on the percentage going up.  About that diabetes..... I take Insulin and it's a pain in the ass, but better than the alternative (kidney failure, etc.).   Let me know how you like the diabetes class.

Hi Queen

I'm with the others on the good news about your percentage going up, but like Mark I'm a bit worried about your sugar levels, but I know you will do whatever you have to do to get, and keep it under control.

Take care.

Hi Queen,

It is good to hear your percentage is up. That is excellent.

The blood sugar is a little scary to hear. My Mom went to a diabetes nutrition class, and learned a lot from it.

I understand not wanting to do the insulin shots. I have taken Fuzeon, and I now take Procrit and started an injectable med for diarrhea last week. The hardest part was doing the first shot, but once the routine is established, it becomes much easier to deal with.

Sending you strength and good thoughts your way.

Thanks for the support guys. I have noticed too that I'm having more problems with my diabetes than the hiv. Both my docs think that if I get the diabetes in control that the numbers might do a little better. I'm set to see my primary doctor on Wednesday. We have to talk about this new diabetic meds he wants me to take since all this hoopla with Advandia has me on edge. I am going to see if he can lower my dosage of metformin. I take 1000mg twice a day and has noticed that I stay gassy and with the squirts. I am trying to stay away from the needle for as long as I can. I am going to try to check my sugar on a daily basis. I can usually tell when my sugar is high because I get headaches and when it is too low, I shake. I will keep you posted after the a.ppointment on Wednesday.

Hi Queen,

Glad to hear your numbers are looking up. Please do take the diabetes seriously, because wiithout proper monitoring and treatment come many complications that I am sure you have been informed about including eye and kidney issues. My mother has type two and it was only after she decided to take control of it that her general health began to really improve. Again glad to hear your numbers are going in the right direction!

Congradulations!  Keep up the good work..................
Incidentally, insulin shots are painless.  You might wanna reconsider that notion.

Painless, really? The thought of sticking the needle in gets me, what if I put it in too far. Or what if I mess up the measurements and give myself too much? I know, I need to go to the diabetes class.....

Queen,
My Mom and Dad went to those classes years ago when they found out my dad was a diabetic. Since mom was gonna be giving dad his shots she had to practice on an orange then she had to give herself a couple of shots so she would know what they felt like. She said the needles were so small you couldn't really feel them.
So hopefully if you have to take the shots they wont be too bad.
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Hugs

An Update from the eye doctor....I started this under a different thread but figured I would throw it in here since it does fall under a doctor's visit.....Ok, the truth? I don't feel like looking for the other thread... ;)

After countless tests, my eyes are fine. Actually the vision in my right eye got better. No cmv retinitis and he was actually quite pissed that the Ear,Nose, and Throat doctor made me think it was. And felt he should've explained it better. I actually felt bad because I haven't seen the doctor to actually discuss it, the appointment is next month...I take the blame for getting carried away and thinking the worst. But seriously, can you blame me after the things I have been through? He even told me that my eyes are in good shape for someone who has been poz as long as I have. What made my day is he actually remembered me from the first time I had been there and this was like 5 yrs ago. He even noticed that I lost weight!!!! I wanted to kiss him but instead made myself one of his regular patients!!!! So all in all it was a good day..... ;D

Hey Queenie!

Babe, when a doctor tells you you've got retinitis no one can blame you for gettin' the shivers. CMV retinitis is truly one of the great horrors that face us AIDS types and is certainly something to get jittery about.

I mean if you go blind, how can you marvel at all the wonderful things Matty the Damned posts here in Teh Forums or drool over those fine looking Men of Oz?

I'm delighted to hear that your peepers are doing ok. :-*

I know what you mean babe. I've got some strange business going on with my left retina which I was worried was CMV retinitis but is most likely a result of the auto-immune disorder I've had since last year. Thus far my vision is still fine but the merest thought of blindness fills me with utter horror.

I can also appreciate that with your hearing impairment the possibility of blindness takes on a truly monstrous dimension.

Thanks Guys, I really appreciate it. I had my visit with the primary doc today. Glad to report nothing major going on. He got the results from the lab work that my ID doc took, he was satisfied with the results but the topic of the day was my diabetes. On a fasting draw, my sugar was 192 where it seems to be dwelling the last few months. He changed me to some other medicine to replace the Advandia I was taking. I got my first tetnus shot, I know I spelled that wrong but y'all know what I mean... :)

Now he wants to check my kidneys by having me tinkle in some bottle for 24 hours. I'm trying to decide when I want to do it, prolly Sunday cause I'm usually home anyway. But I finally get a small break from doctors til July 2 when I go see the Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor.

Rod- If you want some more just let me know. I got enough to spare.. ;)

BKNYLivin and Strong- Oh don't think I haven't noticed you haven't been around.

Matty- Yes lust! And why is it when I lust for someone I can never have them, damn!

Hello Queen. Glad to hear that you will not be going blind. That is  so scary.  get your sugar under control and you will be great.  Oh, don't feel bad about drooling over Matty ,with all that hair. there are many drool-worthy men on here, we just can't have them.  Cristy( who wants one, too)
