Freaking out over encounter - Please help me to assess my risk

Hello Everybody.

I am a male and On october 18 (friday night) I had an encounter with a escort transgender (men to female) from craigslist. She licked my anus and inserted the tip of her tongue in it for few minutes. After that she also gave me a blow job without condom. That was it for our encounter, no condom for both. We did not do anything else. She did not even removed her clothes. After couple days I started to freak out with the possibility of HIV. So on Monday morning I went to a private clinic in Los Angeles. I did an antibody hiv test and came back Negative. I started a treatment on PrEP at 60 hrs post exposure. Now I am freaking out about the odds and probabilities. I had a girlfriend who wants to get back together with me and I am so anxious that I cannot even look people in their eyes. I texted this person couple times and she said that she is clean (last hiv test on April, but we know this means nothing nowadays and that there is a great chance that she does not even know her status).

What makes me more nervous is that my doctor said, "let's hope the medicine can save you" (however I think he is a "salesman" kind of doctor that wanted to make some money, because he said afterwards:"you are medicated, you will be fine, hope this is a warning for you for the future). I do not care now and I am just wondering if my life as I know will still be here for me and if I will be healthy. Another aspect that makes me nervous is that the escort is very calm about it when I mentioned if she gets tested.

Anyway, I am on day 9 of PEP, taking all the doses regularly. Can anyone help me. I am super nervous. The anxiety is really taking over my body and I can barely function properly. That is all I can think about. Can I test again at 4 weeks and again at 6? On the program the doctor gave me says: baseline test, test at 4-6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months.

Can anyone give me some light please. I am really scared.

Nothing you describe has put you at a risk for HIV and you have no need for PEP.

The risk factors for HIV are ...

Sharing IV drug needles immediately after use.
Unprotected anal and vaginal sex.
Mother to child during or shortly after birth
Very specific healthcare situations.

You did not have any type of unprotected penetrative sex, so you did not have any risk of infection.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to HIV testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start.  As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine HIV tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than HIV.  Some of the other STDs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid HIV infection. It really is that simple!

Nothing you did put you at risk for HIV as Joe told you already . That doctor was trying to scare you and that is unfortunate . As long as you use condoms correctly and consistently for vaginal and anal sex you will avoid HIV . Just remember to have sober sex and use condoms and never let a doctor scare you into not having a satisfying sex life with whoever you choose to enjoy it with .

You did not have risk and do not need PEP .

Thanks Jeff and Joe for your support. I will try to stay calm, finish the PEP since I already started and get tested again within the window periods. Hopefully everything will be ok and I will be careful in the future. I thought the doctor ripped me off. The whole treatment cost me 6400 dollars (I do not have insurance) that I had to charge to my credit card. But in a desperate situation like that what else could I do? In my mind was the last line of defense to try to stay negative. I think he might have taken advantage of me. But now I will get 4 follow ups with full panel std tests and will hope for the best.
