Ridiculous Uproar Over Kathy Griffin's Emmy Speech
« on: September 12, 2007, 11:53:05 pm »
Looks like the talking heads needed some new hysteria.  What's the big deal over what Griffin said?:
http://www.kathygriffin.net/

Good for her.  Nothing nauseates me more than some award show winner gushing over God's part in their stupid award >:(

I think most who are upset are mad at the double standard. If she had said the same thing about Allah(?)there would have been an uproar.
I consider myself a Christian, and I had no problem with what she said. That being said, I sure wouldnt wanna be sitting next to her in church. Just Kidding. Who cares what Kathy Griffin thinks about anything? She is actor and a comedian, and not a very good at either.
I also dont understand the "praise the Lord" during victory speeches by athletes. In a way its no different than when whackos like Clooney, Baldwin, and Sarandon make idiotic political statements. It works both ways.
I always wonder why these knuckleheads choose to offend 50% or more of their customers.

I think it's fantastic! I love her...

And on a side note...I always thought Jesus was gay any way...I mean, all the boys around and Miss Magdalen, the first true fag hag...and come on, who else could throw a fabulous dinner party like that to say good-bye?? (I know, I know, I am going to hell...but, hey it's someplace warm!)

I'm so glad you posted links to youtube as I kept thinking what would Regis' sidekick say that could be so offensive....now that I am over my cultural illiteracy and duly educated, the only think I can imagine is that people are upset because her open idolatry,  done in hyperbole for comedic effect, lacks that sweet something or other of self-denial.  In other words, we all have our idols.  Just she is revelling in hers? LOL.

Pozguy, what has been taken away? Like I said, I have no problem with Kathy saying anything she wants. No problemo. I just dont think she is funny. Never have. Just because I dont think she is funny, I am trying to take something away from you? Pryor was funny, Ellen is funny,Leary is funny,Murphy is funny, even Rosie is funny and she should used to be great before she became pissed at the world,Martin is funny, Robin Williams if funny(when he is not on drugs or booze),Kathy is not funny.

Ah, but what you and the outraged Christians interviewed after the speech miss is that nobody does thank Allah on award shows (though that would be interesting to see).  Kathy's not mocking God as much as mocking the sanctimonious twits who gush hysterical thanks to God, when its every but as likely they blew someone to get part ;D

In a way they do thank Allah, since Allah is just the Arabic word for "God" and really Islam, Christianity and Judaism are really just offshoots of the same base religion.

You often hear Americans making a distinction between "God" and "Allah", but most Arabic speaking Christians and Jews refer to "God" as "Allah".  I still kinda get a kick out of Americans who think they are only dissing Islam when they talk about Allah in derogatory terms.

So really, if Jack wanted to use an appropriate comparison he should have written "if she had said the same thing about Muhammad".

It's really not all that important to me anyway.  One of the nice things about agnosticism is I can sit by the sidelines and watch the idiosyncrasies of each side with abandon.

I praise Satan, Buddha, Goddess, the Great Spirit of the Earth, etc. for Miss G!  Love strong women who speak their minds (and somehow they always get pissed on compared to straight men and the SHIT they pull!)

I, like Ms. Griffin, am a 'Fallen Catholic' - I tripped over logic, science and math on the way to confession!

I fully support everyone's right to believe in whatever makes them happy, but when it overlaps into my life and interferes with my way of life - then my sympathy fades.

If God (Allah, Yahweh, etc.) doesn't like her humor, then God is free (free will? hahhaa, ok small joke) to sue her or smote her or strike her down.  How do we know God doesn't have a great sense of humor?  Maybe Kathy is just channeling His humor?  Instead of a dove of the holy spirit, it's the rubber chicken of comedy?

I have heard many funny anti christian or anti catholic comedians and rants. Lewis Black comes to mind. Very funny. Especially his bit on gay marriage and the church. Denis Leary and Allan Ferrara both have more intelligent and funnier rants on Catholic Church than Kathy. Again, I dont know why, but Kathy G. just isnt funny too me.
Different people think different things are funny. It has nothing to do with subject matter.

It really wasnt much of an uproar. This thing had about a two hour news life. An uproar is what happened to the guy who played Kramer or Belecheat.
