Advertising Aidsmeds.com in clinics
« on: July 24, 2007, 04:28:35 pm »
I talked to one of the doctors at my clinic today about advertising this website in the waiting area of the sexual health clinic. She seemed to think it was a great idea and will mention the idea to the head consultant.

Has anyone else done this?
I was thinking about perhaps using the homepage (or parts of it) as a poster.

Any thoughts?

Melia,
The site has owners.  One rather persnicketey one at that.  You had better run your plan by Ann or Andy.

At the clinic I go to, they do tell newly infected people about AidsMeds and there are POZ mags everywhere. I thought for a while POZ had stock in my clinic. :D

i think this is a fab idea, why didnt i think of it sooner?!

cos we are in the UK we dont have poz magazine circulating around - and the similar UK publication Positive Nation is about to finish

ive mentioned this site to all the hiv care professionals i know but obviously i dont know if they have passed the info on - would definitely like to be able to let people know on a poster...

awaiting editors permission with bated breath and fingers crossed...

lots of love

Melia,

If you're going to email Peter about this, wait until he's back home from Sydney. Otherwise, it would probably get lost in the shuffle.

I can't see him having any objections though. He knows I hawk the site all the time. I've also made sure that some of the Lesson pages are printed out for the taking at Sahir House.

Hmmm, maybe I should buy some stock!

My ASO has Poz Magazines all over the place..I discussed the aidsmeds site with my clinic nurse once and she actually heard of it. Impressed me that she was that aware...I think I am going to try my ID doc next appointment. ;)

I already knew to run the idea by the mods - that's one of the reasons I made the thread title so obvious - I was planning to pm Peter today.

The main consultant at my clinic is away for a few weeks anyhoo so that gives me time to speak with Peter et al and get more feedback from you guys and gals.

If it gets the thumbs up I'll speak with my friend at Body Positive about advertising it there too; he already recommends the site to clients.

I'll also mention the idea of making printed lessons available...ta Ann! ;)

Melia -- go for it!  We much appreciate the "viral marketing"!  I'm not surprised to hear lots of clinic docs and nurses have already heard about AIDSmeds.com -- most of them have had patients bring in printed versions of our lessons, drug pages, or a personalized Check My Meds report, and that's how they first hear about us.  Then they read it, and quickly find out we do our homework.

For a year or two shortly after I launched the site, I had some brochures printed up, and offered them to doctors' offices (one of our early pharma sponsors generously offered me an HIV-doctors mailing list).  We had plenty of orders at the time.  I wish I could pull something like that together again, but it was very time consuming, and I eventually let it lapse.

Given how much is on our plates here these days at Smart+Strong (like the pre-launch of OurDignity.com -- check it out!), I doubt I could revive a clinic/doctors marketing campaign.  So I appreciate any help on this front from our forums members.

Sydney was exhausting, but we're all pretty proud of the work we did there.  You can see Tim's great stories, and Regan's and my videocast interviews, at http://www.aidsmeds.com/archive/currentNews_2021.shtml.

Thanks again, Melia!

Peter

Great! Thanks for the thumbs up Peter...and you're welcome!

Now I have the green light, I'll run it by my adviser friend at Body Positive as well as my clinic consultant next week. In fact I'll email my consultant in advance so he can peruse the website beforehand. Yes, I have my consultant's email addy...I'm cunning like that! ;)

Me, Niki (englishgirl) and Chris (MancUK) are getting together for lunch this weekend, so we'll see what else we can cook up. I like the idea of brochures. I wonder, would S&S be prepared to fund towards this if necessary?

Meanwhile, anyone out there with any more ideas for posters etc, please feel free to holler...

Well, small flyers (about half page size) would come handy, if possible easy to print out i.e. not too many colours. My HIV doc here in Germany also pointed me to this website and she has many english-only speaking patients. Having the essentials on a flyer would be quite useful for a lot of them, too.

Delayed response I know but with my recent move back to the UK and trips to the US I've been kinda busy.

Spoke with my HIV consultant (who was actually on the Stephen Fry documentary the other night btw - the smooth Irish one :)) and he gave me the thumbs up to advertise Aidsmeds in the clinic. Even offered to laminate stuff for me, so that's cool.

Now I have 2 weeks to come up with a suitable poster/flier.

So...any suggestions/design ideas are gladly welcome. Either here, via pm or (for those who have it) via email.

Debra (aka Melia) :)

I'm bumping this thread as:

a) I think it may need moving (possibly to Living With?) and

b) I want to repeat my request for help please for design ideas.

I'm not very good at using graphics/design thingies on the computer (as you may be able to tell from the way I call them thingies :D) Anybody who IS good at stuff like that and think they can throw together a poster/flier for advertising Aidsmeds in UK clinics, PLEASE post your ideas here or pm/email me with them.

Thanks again in advance.

Debra :)

This is a great idea! I have spoken about Aidsmeds several times with the staff at my hiv clinic. I am pretty sure they would put a poster up if I asked them. I will ask at my next appointment & will let you know what they say.

MY clinic here in NYC are aggressively advertising AIDSMEDS.COM, it's because of them, I joined the site.

I wish there was a way to get TV airtime, not only for this great site, but, for all the med's that are available for positive patients. Just like the abundance of commercials for Erectile Dysfunction, Sleep Disorders, Diabetes, etc, etc.

Does anyone know why there is a lack of TV airtime for meds?

I'd love to get the makers of the life saving meds to get airtime on TV.
Diagnosed, Monday,  8/9/2004, 1ST year was ruff , now I am well adjusted .
Current Med's ; Kaletra & Truvada
