OMG! I love her! May she rest in peace. Loved that purrrr!

She was incredible... I remember on the news, she was performing at the White House and Nancy Reagan was shocked by the lyrics of a song. I don't remember the song but the "shocking words" were, "I want to be cool, I want to shoot pool." This was the 70's and it was the topic of the news item ;D Have the best day

I was also saddened by Eartha's passing, and if I didn't have such a preference to Julie Newmar's Catwoman, I would've appreciated Eartha's more. I wasn't aware until the news of her passing that she was biracial, interesting that both of the "black" Catwomen were biracial.
It also shrinks the number of still-alive Batman villains from the old TV show are still around. Julie Newmar, Joan Collins, Malachi Throne, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Barbara Rush and Cliff Robertson (as far as I can tell) are the only surviving Bat-villains.

I too was taken by the news that Ms Kitt has passed. Ms. Kitt was an activist on many fronts from the beginning of her long life to the end, with no apologies in between. Talking about fierce. Ms. Kitt gave much fierce. Condolences to her daughter and remaining family.

Oh my! I didn't see this in the news. What sad news to hear in Christmas time. She was a favorite of mine also. I loved her purrr and that rough crispy voice talking or singing. She was so strange but intriguing! My favorite song of hers is an interpretation of a song in Spanish titled "Angelitos Negros" (Black Angels). In the song she questions the reason why a painter in religious paintings always paints beautiful white angels in portraits and church walls, but never black angels...she then moves on telling him that God loves black angels as much as white angels...the song gets you thinking about the message underneath it all. Singers like her were the real Divas back then and even now to many...
May she rest in peace.

I think Zsa Zsa Gabor is gone.

I think Zsa Zsa Gabor is gone.
I think all of the Gabor sisters have passed. I did run out of gas in Beverly Hills once, knocked on a door to borrow the phone and Eva Gabor answered and let us use her phone ;D Have the best day

"Angelitos Negros" (Black Angels).
Painter born in my earth (land, country or world),
with the foreign brush,
painter that you follow the course,
of so many old woman painters (or old painters).
Although the virgin is white,
píntale (paint the) black little angels,
that also they go away to the sky,
all the good negritos (negros).
Painter if pinto (you paint) with love,
why you despise its color? ,
if you know that in the sky,
also it loves God to them.
Painter of saints alcove,
if you have soul in the body,
why when painting in your pictures,
you forgot the black.
Whenever pinto (you paint) churches,
pinto (paint) beautiful little angels,
but never you remembered,
to paint a black angel
Pintor nacido en mi tierra,
con el pincel extranjero,
pintor que sigues el rumbo,
de tantos pintores viejos.
Aunque la virgen sea blanca,
píntale angelitos negros,
que también se van al cielo,
todos los negritos buenos.
Pintor si pintas con amor,
¿por qué desprecias su color?,
si sabes que en el cielo,
también los quiere Dios.
Pintor de santos alcoba,
si tienes alma en el cuerpo,
por qué al pintar en tus cuadros,
te olvidaste de los negros.
Siempre que pintas iglesias,
pintas angelitos bellos,
pero nunca te acordaste,
de pintar un ángel negro

A spectacularly fascinating woman of our times. A truly mesmerizing icon. Her "I Want To Be Evil", was just precious. What anyone can see, hear and feel in her performances, were how grounded and real she was. Courage in her persona was evident in her statements and approaches to the causes she supports.
We will surely miss you dearest Eartha but you will never be forgotten. RIP Madam Diva. :-[ :'( :-*

It was sad to read this news. I loved her singing "Santa Baby" and she played a most purr-fect catwoman. RIP Eartha Kitt

I think all of the Gabor sisters have passed.
While Eva and Magda have passed away, Zsa Zsa is still alive. (I wasn't sure, but double-checked on Wikipedia.)

I can say with some certainty that Eartha would be pleased at all of the comments and response to her passing, even though she was really a shy person and it wasn't easy for her to be social at times. I first met her when I interviewed her some years ago. Luckily the interview was in my living room because she had been doing a photo shoot earlier that afternoon which was very close to my home. She was clearly tired and arrived kind of reluctantly dragging her feet as she came towards me me. She was in no mood to have to "put up with" yet another interview.
But when she reached the door and looked into my living room, she immediately said, "What a warm room." and I thought, this is going to be ok. From then on we had happy sailing. By the end of the interview she had already let me know about wanting to see a Broadway show with me. Of course I arranged the tickets forthwith. We had a great evening on the town. It was only the first one for us.
She was very open with me and her emotions were very close to the surface in conversations. Eartha was a complex woman, very intellingent and filled with wonderful observations and comments about just about everything. She had two grandchildren she adored and of course her daughter, Kitt.
I remember one afternoon a few years ago when she and I were sitting alongside her pool. It was just the two of us and she didn't have on any of her "Eartha drag." Just totally open and "there." I couldn't help then thinking about how amazing life can be. As a teenager and a young man I had been enchanted by her style and yearned to know her, which seemed so unlikely if not impossible. And here we were having lunch, talking, swimming and just hanging out, talking about mutual friends, life and so many things. She sent me home with a jar of the incredible pickle relish she had made, admonishing me to be sure to return her Ball jar so she could use it again. Which I have to say I never did and I still have it and use it.
It was a wonderful gift to know her. I'm sad that she's gone and grateful for the time we shared. She was the living proof of how much you can make of your life and what you can give to the world no matter what obstacles come your way.

Very nice post, Andy. You were lucky to meet her in that way.
