So, what do people here think about the collection of data?  They say they need this, because phone companies don't keep it for more than 90 days, so they wouldn't able to go back and retrieve it later.  I assumed this was happening anyway, so I wasn't surprised.  I am okay with this, as long as there is complete oversight, like they say.  I do worry about someone accidentally getting calls from someone on a watch list.  Or, getting a number that once belonged to them.

It can lead to paranoia.  I remember back after 9/11 and during the beginning of the wars, my friends and I would notice clicks on the phone, every time we mentioned Bush, 9/11, terrorists, bombs, etc.  We would have conversations about things happening in the world, which is something millions did.  It never seemed to happened, unless we mentioned certain words.  Then I saw a 60 Minutes report how the govt does have computers that can listen for key words.  So, not sure whether it was completely paranoia, or if it was real.  Many will remember the secret room at AT&T, where calls were routed through govt computers.

Yes, kinda like the oversight the IRS had while targeting specific groups.
