All of us know stigma but its particularly heartbreaking when a child is subjected to it . It brings back memory's of what Ryan White had to endure .

Those of you who read the AM I infected forum know how much misinformation is out there , so as much as I hate the stigma , I love it when these story's get told so props to her for standing up and being counted .

HIV positive teen encounters harsh treatment:

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/hiv-teen-shares-community-shunned-article-1.1382966

According to that article;

Rawl, whose story will feature in October's issue of Seventeen magazine, plans to study molecular biology at Ball State University to become an HIV and AIDS drug researcher.

I don't think that's true - the voting is still open until August sometime. You can vote daily and I have been since Monday or so when I first found out about it. I meant to post it here, but something shiny caught my attention..... :( sorry.

You can vote for her here: http://www.seventeen.com/fun/articles/pretty-amazing-voting

Make sure you get the right Paige - there are two. You want Paige R., from Indianapolis IN.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Appropriate timing to read this.  I've been doing some research on an issue I've been dealing with for a couple of Summers now.  I've been having severe reactions to mosquito bites.  Each bite causes huge blister like welts that scab over and last quite a while.

So as I was researching, I couldn't believe how many links there sill are with people thinking mosquitoes can still transmit HIV.  It's like 1986 all over again.  You have to wonder if these same idiots still believe it can be spread through swimming pools and silverware.
