Blood of the Fold by Terry Goodkind. It's the third in the series and it's long as fuck. D:

All the books in the series are and it's excruciating. I only started reading them because my boyfriend insisted I read the first one and now I'm commited to read all of them. Gah. I wish I wasn't so easily sucked into things.

They're actually pretty good but so obviously a hetero fantasy that it's hard to stomach. :P Hehe.

I read about a dozen books a month. I just finished Woodward's "State of Denial" and now I'm about a 1/3 of the way through "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" vol. 9, a book of Trek short stories. I had to have something a little less worrisome to read while lying out by the pool.  ;)

Sexual Personae, by Camile Paglia.... A bit dense, definitely NOT a light read.
The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy series... I've read these several times, and love them for the wonky writing style of Douglas Adams, as well as all the screwy inventions that they have in the Universe. How can you not love Joo-Janta Peril-Sensitive Chromatic Sunglasses, or Marvin, the terminally depressed robot?

The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy series...

When you're through with this, let me recommend "Last Chance to See" by the same author. Non-fictional, but equally witty, nonetheless very sad when Adams describes his visits to the endangered species which have a great chance to disappear from earth soon and forever. I read a lot, but this book belongs to the most impressive ones I've ever read. You'll probably need a handkerchief.

Currently reading:

"The Lonely Patient - How We Experience Illness" by Michael Stein, MD

Not too far into it, so no opinion yet.

Just Finished:
"How Doctors Think" by Jerome Groopman, MD

A very interesting read -- gave me some good tricks to use on my doctors, if needed.

I know there seems to be a little theme going currently, but next up is "The Ruins" by Scott Smith, so I'll be out of the doctor and illness phase (for a while at least -- medicine has always interested me, even before my diagnosis).

jms, I think you are entirely right...  I think Freidman has done some good research and has a pretty good handle on the direction things are moving.  All the more reason to change the way we think about some things and hopefully to get that message through at several levels.  The playing field is definately different than it was in the past.  I'm not too far along in the book but I find much of what he points out to be very fascinating.

Just finished "The Execution of Officer Becker," a  true story about a murder by some New York City gang members in 1912 that eventually resulted in a NYC police captain going to the electric chair.

I'm a history buff, and this is really well-researched and gives fascinating insight into the political climate in New York back in those days.
