Anyone Heard of Btripla?

It's a new combo, in Phase III but not yet approved, consisting of Rilpivirine (an NNRTI) and Truvada. It seems like an almost exact replica of Atripla, not sure what advantage it would have other than if there are no cross-resistance issues with Sustiva. Maybe the competition will help bring prices down for Atripla?

This would be a great advantage to Rilpivirine, if it ever happens (and if two other drugs that were as long lasting could be found):

The developer is also experimenting with a long-lasting formulation of rilpivirine that may allow for once-monthly dosing.

Rilpivirine doesn't have the side effect profile of Sustiva, this info was on the aids meds front page a month or two ago.  I've reference it a couple times in posts.

That's good to know. I could not find the info on the side effects profile so I had to do a little more digging. Aidsmeds did not mention it in the article I linked above in which they reported on it in April.

So if this means that it will compete head to head with Atripla and with other combos in general I'm hoping it could mean better prices overall for HIV meds? But who knows, Big Pharma has us all by the balls.

Some of us don't have balls. And we aren't made the subject of studies like you ball-bearing people are. You men don't know how fucking good you have it.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

When I was at the fishing and we'd all be in the pub after a long day at sea, I'd say, "I worked my balls off today".

The boys would say, "but you don't have any".

And I'd say.... "'zactly".
