Westboro Baptist Member Defects

The Today Show interviewed a member of the family who has left, and started a new life.  Journalism is in bad shape.  First, the reporter says the church is "perceived" to hate.  I am not sure whether they were afraid of the litigious family or what.  A journalist can call things as they are, without always doing the "unbiased" thing.

And, I would have liked a question why this family member thinks they are obsessed with this one "sin."  In my own experience (and we've seen many public examples), people who scream the loudest often are hiding deep secrets, and the anti-gay stance is a way to deflect their own "sins."  Questions about the physical and mental abuse would have been good.  I would also like to have heard her views on gays, since leaving the family.  I can understand the brainwashing.  If you're in a group and that's all you know, I can see how you would think it is normal.  Or, you would be afraid of losing the only family you have, even if you find what they do repulsive.
