Poor sleep
« on: January 14, 2010, 11:48:28 pm »
I finally got and took some sleep meds because the insomnia and worry of addiction had a fight with the meds finally punching the shit of addiction worries, but I might have waited a bit too long cause the toll of lack of sleep seems ingrained in my face.  I am just coming off of three nights of sleeping for a full eight hours thanks to seroquel and I was given permission by doctor to cut it in half and that reduced the grogginess the next day( less is more)but I must admit that I am so unused to sleeping I feel almost out of body.  I am getting used to not being tired which had become normal. If it isn't one thing then it will be the other. How funny but true? Now if other areas would wake up maybe I could tackle new projects.  Mark

Sleep hygiene, mon ami. You needs to attend to it.

Humans are diurnal beasts. That means we likes the daylight. In fact we're hardwired to be awake during the day and sleep at night.

It's all about re-establishing your proper sleep routine. For an adult around 2100 hrs (that's 9 in the PM) is when your body starts to wind down. You should toddle your dainty self off to your roses red about an hour or so after that.

All things being equal you'll probably awake around 0530 or 0600 hours, or about sunrise. Once you have the cycle of sleeping at night and waking in the morning established, you'll probably find things right themselves.

You'll also feel a hell of a lot better.

"But Matty I can't fall asleep that early!" I hear you cry. That's what you use sleepers for. To establish that cycle. Pop a pill around 2030 (8:30 in the PM see how that works?) for a couple of days. Once you've gotten the early-to-bed/early-to-rise thing happening try not using the pills.

Some other points. Your bed is for sleeping (and if you're vanilla) fucking. Treat it that way. Don't read, watch TV or surf for nasty German porn in your bed. If you're not sleeping (or fucking) don't be in bed. You need to associate your nest with snoozing.

Outside of that, I got nothing else.

You got me cracking up and I am as I type gettin my dainty little self off to red roses. Yeah, I am trying to reestablish a routine so I'll see. What is fuckin...that thing I used to do too regularly, vanilla or not, I would rather never having to use a bed but sometimes the standing and lack of padding get to me these days.

Ha. Speak for yourself. I've always been a night-owl, even when I was a kid. For me, it's always been natural to sleep from 6am to around noon-2pm.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
