We all know the turkey is the "star" of the Thanksgiving table, but what side dish is your favorite?
I love my mothers sweet potato caserole with the sweet crunchy pecan topping!
-
that is my favorite side dish too Dan....love me some sweet potato with the candied crunchy pecan and marshmellow topping.....
YUMMY!!!!!

For me, it's always been my Aunt's "green" dressing.
Ground beef, lamb, veal & pork, sourdough bread, lots of onion, garlic, celery and fresh chopped spinach. Not the typical turkey dressing, but I've been eating it for almost 50 years now. And finally, this year, she taught me the secret recipe so that I could make it for today's dinner with my cousin (the hunky cop :P ) and his family, while she is up north with my Mom & Dad.
Happy Turkey Day to all who celebrate it!

Aunt Bertha's spinach is my all time favorite veggie. It's chopped spinach mixed with sauted chopped onions and bread crumbs. It's also the only way I will eat cooked spinach. Microwave makes cooking the spinach a snap.

dressing.......with gravy

I have to say the dressing and the cranberry sauce....This is my first Thanksgiving dinner I ever cooked. I'm praying everything turned out ok including the dressing.... ;)

You will do just fine. Every Thanksgiving dinner will be wonderful. It's not how the turkey turns out, it's who is sitting around the table with you. Happy Thanksgiving!
Hugs & :-*'s to you & yours.

An old lady I used to know always said "if the good Lord made anything better than dressing, he kept it for himself." I agree with her!
My sister-in-law's cornbread dressing is fabulous. And her sister's potato salad is incredible. For dessert today, I had chocolate pie (it's a Southern thang) and also some triple chocolate cake.....MMMMMMM.
Hope everyone had a great holiday!
-
I have to say, "candied sweet potatoes." I ate so much today, thinking about food makes me ill. :D
-
Alan,
if chocolate pie , southern style, is considered a side dish... I am wiith you. the best there is.
I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving.
Thinking about yo'all over here in Belgium

my sister makes this bacon-wrapped green been deal that is tremendous.
i'm as full as a tick 'bout to fall off the dawg right now.
-
these damned yankees in ohio :-* don't know diddly about making "real" cornbread dressing (or real BBQ either, but that's another story ::)); but at least they didn't screw up the pecan ("pee-can") pie. ;D
mmmmmmmmmm
what's that? ??? I think I hear a piece of left-over pie calling to me from the kitchen right now. I really should go take care of that. ;)
mikie
(who can afford another piece of pie at only 130 lbs. ;D)

Grreen bean casserole and ice box cake hehehe
i ate this since i was a kid when i lived in the US..but my puerto rican side of the family cooks good food but its not the same....
i made green bean casserole this year (with a twist) and everyone liked it...no one hear had ever eaten it...i had to fry my own onions though since i couldnt find "frenchs onions"

Stuffing!
Baked Macaroni too.
Mostly, STUFFING!!!!
-
Here in Puerto Rico people make their stuffing out of ground beef or meet...its just not right....its good don't get me wrong but its just not my thanksgiving style hehehe
-
I don't know how my mother makes her stuffing (although it doesn't have meat in it like some stuffings do) -- what I do know is that it makes my mouth happy and my tongue tingle!!! ;) And, that is good thing! :D
-
My mothers sweet potato casserole and her macaroni and cheese.. Yum. Can't get to my parents until Saturday and can't wait :)
-
My daughters home made cranberry sauce
-
Sweet potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, oh o.k......... EVERYTHING! :D
-
Sweet potato Casserole is my favorite. Of course, I use my Grandmother's recipe. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Cristy

We started with a bottle of Moet Chandon, followed by some Mumms, a couple bottles of Chardonnay and then some Pinot Noir (all from local boutique wineries and for desert... Gran Marnier (with a 151 float and a match)

Wow, I couldn't possibly offend anyone so I love all the sides--Turkey goes with everything:-) Just as long as I have a nice comfortable couch or place on the floor to sleep afterwards.

While we don't celebrate thanksgiving here in Australia, the husband and I used to make 'Cauliflower and white cream cheese sauce', and take it to his mother's house for the family christmas do... which was really hysterical, his sister in law got told not to make it, "coz the poofs make it better than you" :-D
Sorry, just had to chime in here... blame the scotch :P (still celebrating the change of government here in australia :-)
