Youtube wont play on my computer :(
« on: August 25, 2006, 06:15:37 pm »
I'm missing out on all the vid laughs! >:(
I have snail pace internet connection. It takes longer than forever for the vid clips to buffer.
Is there anything I can do except upgrade my connection speed?

(who wants to see who needs to point his sack up and has an endless amount of Lwoods vid clips and Dingo's vid blogs to catch up on!)

I had that problem until I got a broadband connection. I found with google video, they let you download the actual video file and play it in a media player. I don't know if Youtube allows the same thing.

if you want to watch youtube on a dialup... click play and walk away or continue surfing... let the file fully download then watch it... click pause right after you hit play and it will download slowly for you and then let you watch the vid after you have it all without stuttering.

Heres a little trick I use to save these files, after you let them download.
You need the free Opera browser and the free .fly player (  http://www.martijndevisser.com/blog/article/flv-player-updated )

In Opera browser, change the cache store folder to something you can find easily, like make a folder C:\cache
and change Opera in the options to point at that for temp storage.

Then when you click on an youtube video, it also puts it in that store folder, usually as a .fly file. It will be larger than the other cache store files in size so you can see it fairly easy. You may have to do a "view by size" in windows exployer to put that cache video file up to the top of the list.

Then, just copy that .fly file into some other folder you want to save your youtube video to, any folder you make up.

Then with the free .fly player installed, when you click on the stored .fly files, they should play.

But using dialup, you will still have to wait for the file to totally download into the c:\cache folder, then copy it out to another folder if you want to keep it.
