Thank you very much for this site.

I have read much that insertive fellatio is zero risk for the inserting partner. Is this also true if this happens in Africa? I am kind of guessing the response about the virus not distinguishing one's georgaphical location but I would also be convinced by reading the responses of professionals.

It is not WHO you have sexual relations with, or WHERE you have them, it is purely down to what you DO and HOW you do it.

Getting a blowjob is not a risk for hiv infection no matter who gives it to you, who you are or where on the planet you are.

Please read through the Welcome Thread to find out what is and what isn't a risk for hiv infection. Here's what you need to be doing to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thanks so much. The response was very helpful and I really did read the Lessons. I am in a monogamous relationship and tested negative just before starting the relation. I was just stupid 2 days ago to get a 2-3 minutes unprotected fellatio from a girl while travelling in Africa. I hoped I'd be fine just needed some more assuarance.

Hi again,

I caught malaria during my trip to Africa and right now am taking antimalarial drugs. It appears that the insertive oral I had was during the window period of my malaria infection. Would this mean that my immunity would be weak and I put myself to some risk during the fellatio?

Malaria will not affect the hiv window period, nor does it change the fact that getting a blowjob is NOT a risk for hiv infection.

It doesn't matter what sort of spin you can come up with to put on it. Getting a blowjob is not a risk for hiv infection. Never has been, never will be.

No, having contracted malaria would not have changed the potential risk via getting oral. The risk is still nil.

In the entire history of the epidemic there has never been a documented case of transmission via oral, no matter what the differences were in the details. Zero, none, nada. And you aren't going to make history by becoming the first.

This is not an HIV situation. Period.

I would better stop searching the internet and finding various information from different sites that contradict and eventually bring someone to full frustration and panic. I just visited a website to read about malaria (yeah, if got flu, i know I would go to a flu website  ). There was something about malaria and HIV interacting and I really started thinking that if I was stung by a mosquito 3 weeks ago and my malaria symptoms needed time to appear and 2 weeks ago I received this 2-3 minutes oral sex from the girl (means I was in my window period for malaria).... But the site was actually saying something totally different.

I type and realise that I am becoming very picky and non-realistic. Sorry for taking your time.
