Sign-up here for the moving party!!
« on: July 05, 2006, 08:05:49 pm »
I just witnessed our sweet Cindy Sheehan tell MSNBC that she would like to live in Venezuela under her new buddy Hugo.
She extolled his virtues, and gave a sweet rendition of how he has helped many impoverished americans, even selling them heating oil in times of need.
Awwwwwwwwww..........my heart pumps purple peanut butter for her, and her new hero. So I thought I would start this sign-up sheet in order to expedite her trip. I have a AAA card, maybe we can get a good deal on a U-Haul.

Throw in Ann Coulter or Michelle Malkin for balance and I'm right there with you.
Both extremes work my last good nerve.

I think it needs to be pointed out that left-wing governments are popping up in Latin America, such as Venezuela and Bolivia (and perhaps soon in Mexico),  partly as a response to the awful fascist dictatorships people in that part of the globe have endured for decades.

In many cases, such as the brutal assasination of Allende in Chile and the ensuing awful dictatorship of General Pinochet, the people were unfairly robbed of the candidate they voted for and left with terror in their midst.  Second class citizenry was their fate.

For instance when the criminal Batista ran Cuba like his own personal country club and babies and children dropped like flies from tuberculosis, the ensuing Castro government did in fact bring some measure of stability, education and health care to ordinary Cubans, not that I defend any nation without free elections.

But if the shoe were on your foot how would you feel to have to live in a right wing dictatorship with no concern for human rights and basically run by a cabal of criminals...So people in Latin America now voting for leftists like Hugo Chavez are really doing so partly in response to what they perceive as American support for the former brutal regimes they feel our nation helped perpetuate.
And just because we are fortunate enough to have things like health-care (most of us anyhow) under non-communism doesn't mean they do.

I rather like Hugo Chavez and Cindy Sheehan. They seem like sensible folk to me. I must be an extremist. I'll hand myself into the Australian Security Services.

I compliment Chavez for the things he has done for his people.
I'm just saying that if Cindy feels so strongly that America is such a huge rotting mass of protoplasm, then she should feel free to move to a country where she will feel more comfortable.
I have been taken aback more than once over her antics, and she has infuriated me with some of her anti-American statements. We get that from every place else in the world, we don't need a cheering section here in our midst.
I'm sorry she lost her son in the Iraq conflict. I know our government isn't perfect by any means, but I'm pretty fed up with her. Showing up on television while on a hunger strike in an effort to martyr herself. She reminds me of a passive terrorrist.

I like Hugo because he's a democratic socialist leader and he's doing a good job. Sure he hangs out with Fidel (of whom I'm not fond) from time to time and spouts some spicy anti-Bush rhetoric, but why not? He's one of Fidel's brother Hispanics and all that "We Hate America" stuff goes down a treat with his voters.

When he has to rely on inbred Iowans for support, then I suspect he'll tone it down. As well he has control of a considerable petroleum resource. It's nice to see someone other than those oil sluts in the middle east making Washington sweat it a bit.

Good for him.

As for Cindy, well she's an American taking a stand on the war in Iraq and she's doing a better job than most of the American Left. Michael Moore is a fat blowhard. He makes cute movies but he really doesn't offer any depth or intellectual rigour to the debate. Such is the privilege of the polemicist I suppose. He serves as a convenient strawman for the Right.

As I pointed out in my recent thread on the issue, Americans have a right to be pissy when idle outsiders (particularly the Europeans) criticise American foreign policy. But when it's a fellow American flipping the finger to the establishment on the issue that's different.

It strikes me as passing strange that prominent opinion holders like Ann Coulter (who had a valid point about the 9/11 greedfest) and Rush "Viagra" Limbaugh can exercise their First Amendment rights, but troublesome pinko pacifist shrews like Cindy should fuck off to places foreign if they dare speak out.

Because I saw the hurt, and mortification in the eyes of a group of mothers who also lost their sons in this war.
What makes her so special, that she camps out at the end of Bushy's driveway demanding that he come explain to her why her son had to die.
Because those same mothers loudly stated that she does not speak for them.
It's not as if we can just suddenly pick up all of our marbles and go home.
I'm not particularly happy about the fact that our troops were sent there, but they are, and it is not going to be resolved quickly.
I suppose, that when we begin serious troop reductions later this year, that she will pat herself on the back, that she was able to effect that with her tactics.
(Rush, Ann, and Michael can go with her too)

I've seen some reports about her and actually thought it was rather courageous of her to speak out her mind the way she did --- and still does!  What's wrong with that?  After all,  she is the one who lost a son in a war deemed illegal by more than 90% of the nations of the world... I cannot really imagine what kind of pain she's going through for this loss 'cause I will never be a mother.  I suppose certain things and feelings only a mother can really feel.  And I gather the feeling is stronger yet if that was her only son!  The problem with most us nowadays, I dare point out,  is that until it doesn't hurt us intimately and on our own  skin, well, the pain of our brothers and sisters  seem  more bearable and more acceptable.
Besides, why not try to repair what is wrong?  It is always the same tactics  with  these wars: "First, you send the soldiers to the battlefield no matter what and by all means "  Some strategies used  to get them faster to the battlefield are: lies to the citizens, some unfounded strategic threat, financial help for the ones who enlist --- usually the less fortunate ones in the society --- and so on. That's the most  crucial step.  Once this has been accomplished, the rest will just fall  in beautifully!   "Next, you ask money and financial support --- lots, tons of it --- to Congress."  And, finally the Media is called on to spread the word; to help to instill some more crap into the minds of the often uneducated ones (see articles below).
What follows, then, are logical steps that each society has taken before regarding its troops.  For example, yellow ribbons come out in display of support to the troops.  Can it be any other way since the people more or less agreed that the soldiers be sent there?  I guess not.
So, I suppose it is only rightfully natural that this woman turns against the government (or the man) who sent her son to die (for which "noble cause?") from a horrible death in a foreign land.

Ask her Ex-husband about her. She don't speak for everyone that has lost a son. I'm proud of my nephew and he went into the service to do what he wanted to do. He wasn't drafted. Her son did also. No one made him join the service. He did it because he wanted to.

There reasons why one might join the military service are many and varied.  Often cited reasons include a way to get advanced education, the desire for structure in one's life, the desire to belong to something larger and more important than oneself, the genuine desire to provide service to one's country, and the desire to get job skills that might be marketable in the civilian sector.  Sometimes one can't even really articulate the reason.

But no one EVER joins the military so they can be killed in Iraq, or anywhere else for that matter.

I can't tell you why the Sheehan boy joined up, but I can say with great assuredness that he didn't do it to die.

There is no sign posted outside of ANY U.S. military base or post that says "Welcome to the University of the Army (Navy, Air Force or Marines - as the case may be)"

It is not a secret that service members go to foreign lands and are at risk of giving the ultimate sacrifice.  Regardless of whether a war, conflict or police action is morally right, legal, etc etc is completely irrelevant.  When you sign "the dotted line" you are accepting risk.  For anyone to be so naive in today's world that they can join the military, receive a free education, training, etc and not carry a chance of being deployed is absolutely ludicrous.

We do not have a draft, currently, in this country.  Nobody holds a gun to your head to sign, potentially, your life away.  Every signature is given of free will.  I'm sure no one WANTS to die, but clearly it's a risk they are willing to accept.  I, myself, joined the military in 1990, right before Desert Shield took off.  Hell no, I didn't want to go to Iraq and I was lucky enough not to have to.  I did, however, deploy to Somalia for 6 months in 1993.  Not exactly a party, but it went with the territory of my "job".

whizzer, all the guys and gals that join up are well aware that they may die, or get killed. My nephew and Sheehan's son both signed up in the time of war. They both filed their Wills. So they both knew what their chances were. I miss my nephew greatly, but it was HIS decision to join.

It is my belief that we all have the right to express our opinions.  And I'm quite certain it must be devastating for those who have lost friends and family in Iraqi and around the world in the name of FREEDOM.  Those soldiers, their families have paid the ultimate price for that right...I suggest we HONOR them!

Poor Cindy Sheehan is mentally challenged. The woman is an embarrassment to her son’s memory. I’d be more than glad to help her move. I suggest we send her down-under so that Matty can straighten them all out.

Let’s through in Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, Michael Moore, Fidel Castro, Ann Coulter, Pope Benedict, Jerry Farwell, Rev Jim Barker with Tammy Fay’s make-up case. That has enough oil based products in it to run any country for a few weeks.

Ann Coulter is a hate-mongering bag of bones! To put Sheehan on the same educational level as her is, well that’s just too funny. The only thing the two have in common is that they are both an embarrassment to the first amendment to our constitution. They should keep their collective mouths shut. NUTJOB Sheehan should respect her son’s memory. She is a disgrace to him, herself, her family and mostly to All America!

Terry

Whizzer, Suicide bombers go willingly to their deaths. And their families gladly accept money from Osama Bin Ladin, Hamas, Palestine etc.

Cindy Sheehan is a grieving mother who lost her son in a war based on lies. Ann Coulter is a fascist Barbie Doll who will say anything to make a buck. There is no comparison.

Cindy Sheehan's son died so the Ann Coulter's of the world can spew their venom...or at least that is what we are told. The Ann Coulter's of the world defend the First Amendment only when it applies to them...not you.

I wonder who would be the first to say, "people with HIV deserve it", Cindy or Ann?

Peace,
Hal
