Don't let the spectre of meds get to you !!
« on: April 15, 2008, 04:04:45 am »
Thought I would post this note concerning meds , as I have been coming to the board and got a lot of support from it , hopefully it may help any one just starting .

I was diagnosed in May 06 ,like most people you think its all over , after the initial shock and suffering with skin rash's and things , the Dr suggested waiting a while before doing anything and monitoring my numbers.

The thought of taking tablets for the rest of my life seemed incredibly daunting , as I am the sort of person who would be the last to take an aspirin for a headache.

In Mar 07 the Dr suggested it was now time to start on meds , this seemed like a harder blow than the initial diagnosis for some reason , possibly because it meant a wake up to reality , who knows.

The Dr went through the programme , a series of four pills , that must be taken on time and never miss a treatment stressing the importance of sticking to the regime.

Armed with the the next three months stock , I went out and started on the treatment , after a couple of weeks I realised it was not so bad after all , and a little discipline was no bad thing either , and most importantly it was a lot better than the alternative !!

Now after a year on meds , I thought it was about time I tried to offer a bit back to the board .
If anyone is just starting or about to begin taking meds , it really is not as daunting as it can appear .

I hope this may offer a little reassurance to someone , as I know various comments on here have helped me .

Hey Asean,

Thanks for providing a bit of balance to the meds issue. Too often, people post only when there are difficulties and that could lead people to dread the meds.

It is refreshing to see people get on well with meds and go on with productive lives.

HUGS,

Mark
