My latest labs
« on: October 12, 2010, 02:15:02 pm »
I had my usual visit with my ID doctor this morning and I got the results from my last labs taken in August.  My CD4 count is 301 with the percent being 21.5% and my viral load is 61.  I will go give blood sometime this week to get my newest set of labs and I've got my fingers crossed that I am UD as we speak.

I've only been on meds since June so I'm thinking that this is all very good news for me.  I also got my prescription for Chantix and hope to be cigarette free in a weeks time.  That would be wonderful!  I don't have another appt for three whole months.

Thanks Carl.  I am slightly concerned about the side effects of the Chantix, mostly the mental ones.  I had a pretty ugly bout with postpartum depression after my youngest was born.  But I will keep my eyes open to anything out of the ordinary.

Congrats HippieLady.  That VL is almost where it needs to be; I bet it will be UD when you get the next results.

Hey Hippie,

Yes, that all sounds very good. Good luck with the Chantix, I tried it but I really wasnt ready to quit. But Im on Welbutrin again, and will start the patch this week, so maybe by hitting it with both I can finally quit for good.

Keep us updated on how the Chantix goes.

Good numbers and a great decision to quit.  I smoked in my early twenties to early thirties.  It was one of the hardest things to accomplish.  Even if you fall,  on the chantix, don't beat yourself up or get discouraged.  I think it took me about 30 times to quit. If I could do it, then anyone can.  It just might just take them 31 times..lol.

Hey Hippie Lady,

I quit smoking using Chantix. I smoked the first week, by the second the desire was gone and I have been smoke free for nearly 4 years.

Not bad for someone who smoked for 32 years.

But, even if you don't succeed at first, keep at it. Don't wait as long as I did and then find yourself on two inhalers each day.

Oh, and by the way, the lab numbers are looking good!

HUGS,

Mark

oh my oh my...yay!

congrats on the labs lovely lady. it's only gonna keep getting better.

quitting smoking can be a bitch. it took me years to quit (like 2). like the others have said, just don't give up. i just got better at quitting each time i tried. after every failed attempt when i started back up i smoked less. one of the biggest hurdles for me was resolving problems without nicotine. every time i had a problem the first thing i would do was go outside and light one up. it took weeks for my brain to get used to problem solving without that nicotine rush. i remember being dumbfounded on multiple occasions. and i do still miss the random conversations with other smokers, albeit not enough to start smoking again. i started smoking as a teenager and quit in my mid 20s. don't remember the last time  i picked up a cigarette and don't plan on starting back up again.

take care,
d
