Life Insurance - UK
« on: July 22, 2008, 02:09:17 pm »
My partner has been applying for a mortgage here in London, UK and the premium is £20 per month. At this time it was just an informal chat and he didn't disclose his status (he's also +)

This may sound like a very stupid question but, should he wish to apply for a life insurance, has he got to disclose his HIV status?
Would insurers in the UK offer him cover anyway or are they likely to refuse?
If the general practice is to refuse, are there any who will insure HIV people today?

Many thanks and apologies if I sound naive but on this subject... well I really am!!!

While you can (just) get life insurance in the UK inf you are HIV-positive it's extremely expensive, and comes with many restrictions, eg heart disease is ruled out as an HIV-related/meds-related "event", perhaps not worth the ££££££s. Strictly speaking, it's not needed for a mortgage (well, a good one anyway). But, yes, if you did apply, you'd have to disclose your HIV status, and would need to see a specialist broker.
