Elevated liver enzymes

I've been on kivexa + efavirenz for 6 months now and the most recent check up my doc tells me the I have elevated liver enzymes ( standard should be below 50 but mine went from 16 to 61 in the past 3 months). While I was told that it is not super high they alerted me that they are going keep monitoring it. I'm also scheduled for an ultrasound to see all is working well down there.

So does anyone know the implications of this? I have asked them for some worst case scenarios. Since I have been able to maintain my Cd4 at 684 and my VL at UD I'm not keen on switching meds right away, but this does concern me considering I live a pretty healthy life as I exercise regularly, don't smoke, don't drink or do any rec drugs.

Hoping you guys can help shed some light!

There are actually two liver tests routinely done -- if you look at your lab work it's labeled "AST (SGOT)" and "ALT (SGPT)"

For the past year my ALT number was out of range, but only minimally at first. Then it went a bit higher and finally my AST went out of range, but not wildly so. To be on the safe side after several readings out of range I was sent for a ultrasound. The report seemed not to worry my doctor, and as I have very minimal intake of alcohol that doesn't contribute to what is going on. So now my numbers, while still out of range, have stabilized and all they are doing is monitoring them.

I have been on HIV treatment now for 21 years so it's not that unusual.

At any rate, you've only had one reading go out of range is that correct? You shouldn't even be worry about anything yet. It's not unusual for any reading in your lab work to go out of range and then be back within range the next time. They only make changes if 1) reading is wildly out of range and 2) it's out of range consistently
