Title: Rimming and Blow job. Reason to be worried?
Post by: RudyMilner on November 05, 2012, 01:17:22 pm
I recently had an encounter with another man. He said he was negative before and again when I asked him a few days later. However, people lie, or just don't know. I'm 18 and I'm not usually into guys but I decided to experiment as I was feeling a bit confused (I now regret the whole thing). Perhaps some of my anxiety is stemming from the guilt? Anyway, the only activities that took place were him Rimming me (There was a lot of saliva), Him rubbing my penis with his fingers that had saliva, he inserted one finger into my rectum once and then he briefly put my penis into his mouth until I objected. What is my overall risk? Is testing warranted? I know that saliva is not a problem unless it has visible blood, but I am not sure how good his dental health was. Would visible blood entail quite a significant amount of blood? Perhaps he could have had bleeding gums but again this might just be the anxiety talking. I apologize if my problems seem petty to those of you who are actually carrying the disease. Thank you for your time.

Nothing that you did, put you at risk of contacting HIV.

Thanks for your response. What I don't understand however is that there have been documented cases as a result of biting. Though my case wasn't biting, doesn't that show that the mouth could potentially spread HIV to an uninfected person?

Well, not really. See, cases that were "documented" in the 80s and early 90s still exist on the record books, even though science has progressed to rule out all but the most tiny oulier cases. The biting cases, and I think there were less than five (which can never really be confirmed as people do and can have other risks) involved extremely demented people savagely tearing chunks of flesh off of the arm or hand of a health care worker. What was dangerous was, of course, the gigantic amount of blood involved on the part of both people.

The instances that were reported really read more like a scene from a zombie movie than anything else, and I suspect their graphic nature has led to some degree to their longevity.

We know, for example, that saliva is not only NOT infectious, but contains over a dozen elements that neutralize HIV and render it incapable of infecting. This is why we no longer consider things like kissing, rimming, and oral sex to be a viable risk for HIV infection.

In many cases, these "documented" reports are more like time capsules than anything seriously relevant to today's understanding of HIV and it's transmission. But sadly, they don't just disappear or get altered when subsequent information places real doubt or entirely disproves the original thesis. The evolution of HIV science, particularly transmission theory, has taken a long and circuitous route to where it stands today. Fortunately, we have managed to cross off the list many if not most of the things which were speculated to facilitate infection in the days before powerful therapies were invented and people actually lived long enough to study.

There is NO RISK for HIV whatsoever through rimming, getting a finger in your rectum, or having your penis sucked. None.

Wear a condom when you have anal or vaginal intercourse, and don't share IV drug needles.  That's pretty much it.

Just posting this for all the worried wells that might come across this. I got tested last week as part of my yearly panel. Got a rapid test and a PCR - RNA test (Free in Dallas) and both came back negative. And Thank you very much jkinatl2 and Rapid Rod for calming my fears. Hopefully, I will not be back here again annoying you with unwarranted fears.
