Don't Settle For a Bad Doctor!
« on: December 03, 2011, 01:48:58 pm »
I had a wonderful, informed doctor for my first two years of HIV. She and I were able to discuss any concerns or questions I had openly and freely, and she listened to me. She would freely discuss my treatment options, and was very proactive in my care, despite having many other patients besides me. Sadly, she left a year ago, and I was stuck with a doctor who was very cold and uncaring, I did not like him. He had an attitude, barely treated me like a human being, and would simply not allow me to ask any questions or discuss anything openly with me. He actually was accusatory with me for asking questions. I found out quickly that many other patients disliked him too. While some said he was "thorough", I'm sorry, but that doesn't cut it. When it comes to such an important, ongoing health issue such as HIV, make sure you get a doctor who is nice, informed, and listens to you!! Word of advice, DON'T settle. I never settle, and I quickly switched and now I will be seeing a very nice new doctor in a couple of weeks. All of you should do the same, never feel like you have to stay with a doctor who is not open and who won't listen!!
