CNN's John King and his "magic map"
« on: November 02, 2008, 09:09:18 pm »

 >:(  Can't wait for this election to be over. I've mentioned this before, but does anyone else think that CNN's John King and his Magic Map is just about the most annoying display ever ?  :P Everytime he shows his face, I want to throw a brick at the TV. The only other time I feel this way is when W shows his face.

I can not watch this guy, everytime he's on with that ****** up map, I have to turn the channel.

Is this guy on meth ?  ::)

Alright....I'm ok now !   :)

Ray, I don't know who John King even is.  I usually watch Keith Olberman and Rachel Maddow.  And sometimes that Hardball show.  I can't listen to the "right" for very long-it gets me extremely frustrated.

Yes.
He drives me insane.
That map is one of those things that might be fun to play with at home, but it's just irritating as hell to watch someone else do it on television.

Screw his map -- this is all you need to know for Tuesday night.

I'm betting it may be an earlier night than you expect.  Virginia's polls close at 7pm, so if we know Obama won that by 8pm then he's close to winning.

Pennsylvania HAS to be won by McCain -- he's down by 7pts here, he's just not going to win that.  Our polls close at 8pm.

Obama wins Virginia, and PA so I'm betting they can call the entire election by 10:30 pm EST.

I think/hope you might be right Philly.  The only thing I would caution, living in one of the "blue wall" states that flanks the West coast, (states without which Obama can't win) , is if they "call" the election before our polls even close, (yes America our voices also have a roll to play in this), that could have a negative impact on turnout.  So while I continue to feel optimistic, I think we need to be careful about some of these proclamations.

Ray, I agree with you about John King and his friggin map.  The way he makes things   E-X-P-A-N-D and shrink, the way he defines things by color (red vs blue), well it all just makes me crazy!  His analysis doesn't offer that much as far as I'm concerned.

I am expecting that also. I also told a few of my co-workers that I will be buying the Pizza, in celebration of Tuesday night's Obama victory  !!  8)

Two new polls came out on Pennsylvania, which McCain has been trying to whip up the television punditocracy in believe he has a shot.  One shows Obama ahead by 8 points, the other by 10.

Sorry Johnny... ain't gonna happen.

And on another note I've never encountered anything like Obama's GOTV efforts here.  I've had a call, two knocks on my door, and one flyer.  I'm sure I'll get one more knock today and another flyer by 6 am.

I think that these averages look quite safe -- it amazes me that everyone on TV didn't just laugh at his campaign's suggestion that they'd be pulling off this state an hedging their bets here.  It is to laugh.

Gee, I don't find his map that annoying, I love the fact every time I see it there's less red and red on it.  And while he's not the hottest guy on CNN, I've always found him a bit sexy.  (I can't explain his converting from Catholic to Jewish just to marry Dana Bash though.)

But yes, I'm more of an Olberman viewer (and LOVED how Ben Affleck nailed him perfectly on SNL last weekend) and always "go to bed" with Anderson Cooper.
