Travel Insurance--part deux--US?
« on: July 09, 2006, 09:33:14 am »
I didn't want to hijack Newt's thread about travel insurance: UK solutions.

For those of us in the US, is there travel insurance available?

I just realized that this (Montreal) will be my first trip since Blue Cross dumped me last year (secondary coverage) and I know Medicare only covers us in the US.

Is this a problem?  Does anyone know?

There are several travel insurers here in the US that I work with that supply coverage ranging form $10,000 to $50,000 in emergency medical and dental.  Coverage is secondary to your primary coverage.

If anyone is interested, I'd be more than happy to check rates for you.

I've travelled all over without it.
(It's probably not a good idea, eh?)
I got fairly sick in Mexico City once...not sure what it was...but it scared me enough to pay the $150 to United to reschedule my flight home a couple of days early.
I do think about it more when I travel these days, particularly to warm climates.  Between the long flights and the A/C in hotel rooms, it seems I always end up catching something.
