I am a straight AA male. In May 2008 I received unprotected oral sex from a female AA street prostitute in a predominately AA county with the 2nd highest HIV rate in my state. I have reason to believe that the guy she serviced before me, who finished in her mouth is HIV +. I too finished in her mouth, an had scrapes on penis from prior night's sex. Would infected semen of the guy, in her mouth, be a potential threat to me? This is the first time I have had sexual contact with someone other that my wife in 9 years.

About 2 weeks later I started to feel pins and needles in my face and groin. I went to the doctor who gave me a shot and antibiotics to take. They checked my urine and blood and tested everthing came back clear. I have HSV1 and thought maybe I had caught HSV2 so I started Valtrex, to reduce the possibility of a sever outbreak. Would Valtrex delay seroconversion if I was infected with HIV?

For the past seven months I have all sort of symptoms,  muscle pain, fatigue, hive like rash on shoulders and arms, my achilles tendons are killing me, all sorts of acne problems on my face, especially the forehead, between eye brows and nose. My nose, I can see sebum in the mornings, I can then squeeze and it will spiral out: I NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. My skin is now more sensitive and my face is red when I get out of the shower, again..this is all brand new never happened. Nausea everyday.

The symptoms that are really worrisome are swollen lymphnodes in neck and armpits, prostatitis returning, fungal infection beneath penis head, and my first ever abnormal blood test: my hematocrit is low. Also, the back of my knees burn.

My wife does not know of this and we only have sex using condoms. BUT she has begun to have irregular periods as of about 4 months ago for the first time in her life. Her Dr. says her testosterone level is high, this is the first time is her adult life that her periods have been irregular. She then had to go to the Dr. for sever headaches, they took an MRI and blood work. Her WBC was high and her liver function was abnormal, she went back 3 weeks later and both were normal again. A MRI recently showed her neck lymphnodes are swollen she should get results this week from more bloodwork. She has had basically the same facial acne problems as me, concerning the forehead and nose, all new happenings.

We both continue to have symptoms we never had before.

I tested negative for HIV, Syph and HSV2 in October...would this be conclusive?

I must add that about 2 months ago my wife had what appeared to be a cold but she had a dry cough that lasted about a week after the cold, no noticable fever.

I have not had a cold or cough...but I have had dry eyes and headaches.

You didn't have a risk of contracting HIV from receiving a blowjob even if she sucked off a football team before she got to you.

The short and for real "serious" answer to your question is that you are HIV negative. Period. End of story. Receiving oral, no matter what details you throw in about abrasions on your penis or who sucked you or whatever are all totally irrelevant in terms of HIV risk. In the entire history of the epidemic no guy has ever been confirmed to have been infected in that manner. It's safe to say you aren't going to make history by becoming the first.

Your symptoms and your wife's? That's something for you each to discuss with your doctor(s). You are malfunctioning right now through an HIV jitters mindset. That means EVERYTHING that happens or doesn't happen to you is mistakenly viewed as ANOTHER SIGN of your worst fears. All with no basis whatsoever in HIV science I might add.

You never needed to test over the incident and now that you have it's only confirmation of your negative HIV status.

In my experience, straying husbands, boyfriends and others often go into guilt, shame and panic mode after having strayed. All to no good purpose. You did what you did and it's no sign of your higher ethics nor a love tribute to your wife for you to torture yourself. Give it up and get on with your life is my recommendation.

This is NOT an HIV situation. Period.

Andy, would you say that my wife's symptoms are related to mine? She does not know of this and has been complaining of new health issues; her problems would not be attributed to "HIV jitters"

Get a grip. You never had a risk for hiv by gettting your dick sucked. You ARE hiv negative. Conclusively so.

If you wife feels unwell, she needs to see a doctor. It's nothing to do with hiv unless she's been shagging the milkman without a condon behind your back. Just like you got a blowjob behind HER back.

RR Andy Ann, I know this site is dedicated to HIV/AIDS, but, with all of the guys that come here with symptoms from oral sex; does anyone ever come back with the actual cause? Does anyone ever report what was actually causing all the problems, or do they get a negative HIV test, never to return.

This would help a lot, I have had a ton of BJ's in my younger years; never had any symptoms.

As Ann, Andy and I have already advised you, you were never at risk of contracting HIV from a blowjob. There is nothing more to add.

I now understand that HIV is not a concern for insertive oral. What I need help with is a hint of something other than the usual Syph HSV, NGU, that you could get from a BJ?

Has anyone reported the "real" cause of symptoms after realizing they did not have HIV?

If you want to find out what is causing your symptoms, you'll have to see a doctor. I fail to understand how whether or not someone else found out what they were sick with has anything to do with you. You are not them. See your doctor if you feel unwell.

If you're worried about other STIs, again, see a doctor. This is an hiv specific website.
