OhMyGod its Omacor
« on: January 16, 2007, 01:22:28 pm »
My doc just wrote me a prescription for Omacor, to replace the fish oil Supliment that Ive been taking for Cholesterol control. Not that the Fish oil and Lipitor weren't working mind you, my latest labs showed  LDL 85 and HDL of 85. and  thats pretty sweet for this White Meat. ( especially when you consider that the LDL was consistently in the 180's, even with a strict diet and Niacin supliment,
 before I started Lipitor)

Aparently from his explanation and the brochure that came with Omacor,  its basicly Hella concentrated Omega 3  without the drawbacks of fish oil ( like possible  increased mercury levels acording to the brochure)  Omacor however is prescription only and not covered under my states ADAP formulary, so when my sample bottle runs out Ill have to find a source somewhere in the murkey waters of internet prescription providers, Pirates and Pill Pimps. and possibly even Canadians.
Last Time I checked with online pharmacies I was deluged with a load of Spam for everything from Viagra to Oxycontin ( where's Rush Limbaugh ??) so if anyone can reccomend a good online discount pharmacy Id really appreciate it.

Is anyone else taking Omacor ? if so whats the cost without a drug plan, and has it had any effects on your labs??

Hey Lwood -

Am not taking Omacor - yet anyway.  But saw on the Costco site it goes for about $140 for 120 pills which is $20 less then what it retails for at Walgreens. And at this Canadian website (which I know nothing about, just Googled Omacor Canada) it goes for $112 for 100, which is only $.03 cheaper then Costco per pill.

Also noticed on the Omacor website that it is sometimes confused with another drug called Amicar so be sure you get the right stuff wherever you end up getting it from.  Also, I have a neighbor who gets his perscriptions from Canada and will ask him for their website so you can check that out too.

Good luck - hope this works as well as the maker says it does.

Hello lwood,

Never tried it. In fact, never heard of it until you mentioned it. I went to drugs. com, and it stated generic versions are available, through prescription, which may save money, and are probably as effective.

Looks as though it has to be taken, pretty much as directed, without late or skipped doses. I will have to read up on it more.

Yup.  My partner Kurt is taking that because of the reason your doctor gave: the mercury problem.
