It's been my experience that Republicans have acted like this since the Reagan years.  I even voted for Mondale... that should tell you something (besides my advanced age!  though that was my first presidential election I could vote in).  I will say that Republicans previous to Reagan were not like this, but then gays weren't so visible then so it wasn't a big issue yet.

hey look!  A Republican agrees with me!

If she happens to win the Democratic Nomination, she will not win.  There is too much controversy surrounding her, much coming from her years as first lady.  While I can see her being a role model for women (I was really glad to see Nancy Pelosi make Speaker of the House), I just think her attitude from the whole Bill/Monica scandal was I guess passe (outdated).  Obama is another candidate who I think cannot win if he receives the nomination also.  He's too new, and we still don't know enough about him to take his views seriously.  I personally think that John Edwards could be the most viable candidate.  If the ticket had been reversed in 2004 (or if John Kerry was not on the ticket at all), I think Edwards could have pulled it off easily.

When John Edwards announced his intentions to run for '04, he had only served a few years in the Senate.  Hardly more than Obama, and without Obama's time in a state legislature.  So in effect Edwards at that time was LESS experienced.

I do agree with you on that statement.  What worries me about Obama (and Hillary for that matter), is that they could possibly hurt the parties chances of having a democrat in the white house in 2008.  I'm no means a fan of President Bush, and really don't understand why he acts so arragant when it comes to decisions he has made and continues to make, but enough of bashing the man.  The democrats have been bashing him like crazy, and now some of his own party is as well.  We have to look at it this way, he's not going to change his mind about anything, and there is proof of that since he ignores even his own parties objections.  Let the potential candidates focus on other things beside the war, get on with issues that will positively affect OUR country, not some foreign country.  And as much as I respect our troops, and having family who is in the military right now, not wanting to extend their tour of duty, they do not want to be there, as much as we want them to be there, or at least I don't.

Sorry about going off like that, but when this new strategy goes south (and I expect it will again), then history will rank the president as one of the (if not THE) worst president in history.  BUT lets not replace him with Hillary or Obama, I just don't get a good feeling about them representing my party.

And one more thing, John Edwards was running iin '04, with John Kerry, who had potential and a few years experience, but his mouth gets him in trouble alot. I still don't agree with the botched joke thing he said about the troops last year.  I think it was tacky, and uncalled for.  It did insult alot of our brave men and women.
