Study Shows Certain Lubes May Increase STD Risk
« on: May 26, 2010, 11:21:15 pm »
I read this on the poz.com homepage.  They say Astroglide and KY Jelly are the worst.  I usually buy Astroglide because I can get it easily at most stores.  To get WET and others around here, you have to go to adult bookstores.  Can I sue Astroglide..lol.?

Perish the thought, young Theodore!  I know down south there's one of those every three blocks.

Shouldn't you girls be using Pjur Analyse Me?

We actually do have several adult stores here in Louisville.  I have to stay away from them as I'm tempted to go into the peeps.

I'm reliably informed that "peeps" are some sort of bird shaped confectionery. I have to say that your confessed temptation disgusts but does not surprise me.

Are you serious?  You honestly have that little self-control?  I'm starting to think your infection story isn't as simple as first portrayed.

I was kidding.  I did use to go to them when I was younger.  I'm no angel.  I didn't do anything there that caused my infection, though.  Well, I did look through a glory hole and got shot in the eye.  From what I've read, that is a very, very low risk.  I use to have one near my house, but it shut down.

The news media started doing undercover investigations here of the bookstores.  After that, I've avoided going.  I got into a huge fight with the reporter who was doing the stories.  She was all one-sided and had a bias.  I knew her dad left her mom for a man, so I think she had a huge bias.  So, I just didn't want to end up on camera even being in the regular part of the store.  They were showing people in the regular part of the store, but mainly in the glory hole section.  So, I haven't gone back since I learned they were going to do the investigations.  I had advance knowledge and called one of them to warn them, but they obviously weren't too worried cause they caught plenty of people having sex.

So, I got my Astroglide at Walmart of all places.  It is funny to see the cashier's face.

It's even better when you get a couple of packs of Magnum XLs to go along with it.

As for lube, I'm partial to spit.

bit of spit and shove it in, I say. your arse lubes itself quick enough without the need to use expensive crap that dries and gets sticky and messy after a bit anyway.

well, what can I say? remember how did we promote safe sex? --- use only water-based or silican-based lubricant with latex condoms... --- well, I'm pretty sure KY is not oil-based.

and now? lubricants for anal sex may increase risk of HIV...

the use of condoms will reduce that vastly.

To consent to unprotected sex, is to risk transmittion of STI's including HIV

With the use of a latex condom and appropriate lubricant- including water-based KY- HIV can be prevented. The findings apply ONLY to unprotected sex. I mean seriously, with an intact condom, how can HIV possibly pass from one partner to another?

I am baffled that an ivy-league educated person would even posit that query.

Our HIV prevention and transmission theory is unaffected by these latest findings. Use a condom correctly and consistently, with appropriate lubrication, and you can prevent HIV infection.

huh? I've seen messy slick holes after an hour or two of energetic hard play. you get his "mucus" build up that works great. But a spit and shove is violent for most butts at the get go and for quite a time after. Can really tare.

I am reasonable certain your suggestion is bravado and not recommended practice, as torn butts are not good with a condom and certainly awful without.

PS the inferences from the study are ridiculous.
First of all, the lube was not tested on human butts.
Second, can we agree that if you are using a condom correctly, it doesnt matter much what lube you use, as long as it is water based you are not going to transmit HIV.

Rather interesting the radical difference in percentage of blacks, latinos and whites who use anal lube.  :o

Condoms can break easily when/if a person ejaculates in it.
This happened twice with my 1st boyfriend.
]

So, ''don't come in a condom because it can break'' should be a rule of safe sex too.
People should fuck for 20-30 minutes without coming, when they want to come,
they should stop the sexual act, and come while masturbating, as seen in most porn movies.  :)

Condoms break because of ejaculation:   hogwash

Get the proper size condom.

If you are breaking condoms when you cum, it may be that you either aren't wearing the right size, or you need to buy ones with a reservoir tip (most condoms have this anyway) as Mecch points out.

However, the most likely reason is that you're not putting them on properly. You need to squeeze the tip as you put it on to prevent a bubble of air being trapped. This is one of the main causes of condom breakage whether cum is involved or not. Not using lube for anal sex is a biggie too.

Elf, I suggest you read through the condom and lube links in my signature line. A correctly used (and stored) condom rarely breaks.

I've filled condoms with gallons of water without them breaking so a couple ounces of ejaculate isn't gonna do it.

So, I got my Astroglide at Walmart of all places.  It is funny to see the cashier's face.

I once bought some Lube, 2 packs of condoms, A Fleet Enema, some Excedrin and a dozen of assorted donuts. It was funny watching the clerk as she scanned the items and she looked at me and exclaimed " Wow, someone's gonna have a great evening"

I'm glad My local supermarket now has those "self serve" checkouts, it's easier to get through them without the comments or looks.

But whatever.

Yep, like I said in my post, but it takes some work to get to that point and its not guaranteed to happen. Maybe kind of like female ejaculation, the g-spot, so on and so on.  Myth or reality.  Well the butt does have mucus membranes so it does produce mucus.  But as Ann says, not using lube is not recommended practice.

Willy, dear, donuts are not a substitute for cock-rings.

We women have our own natural supply of lube and it can be employed for a bit of back-door action. However, if condoms are involved, lube in a bottle or tube is a must.
