Congrats Andy Velez!
« on: February 03, 2011, 08:51:46 am »
Very exciting news...

Our Andy is going to be a busy man over the next 18 months! He's been chosen to be the official Community Activist Liaison for the XIX International AIDS Conference, taking place at the end of July 2012 in Washington, DC!

Andy will serve as the link between the conference secretariat and the activists to ensure the best collaboration, communication and transparency possible before and during the conference, as well as lead the support to activism within the limits of our document “Values and Principles of Conference Participation”.

This is a huge deal and, quite frankly, the conference organizers couldn't have picked a better activist and organizer for the job.

Congrats Andy!

Tim

Edited to add: Andy will be remaining with the Forums through it all -- with time off as needed -- and we're thrilled.

Andy,

As you are well aware,  it has been 15 years since the IAS held a conference in the US due to the travel ban (repealed, finally). This conference will certainly be an important one. The latest research and updates will, most likely, be showcased and hopefully "CURE" will be the buzzword.

Bravo for your appointment and CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I can't believe I missed this thread! Congrats, Andy! You have consistently been one of the hardest working folks in the field of HIV/AIDS activism. I have always been a true fan.

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."
