Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Hi! 25 hours ago I was with a sex worker. We did frottage most of the time but in three times only a part of the head of my penis without a condom entered her vagina for 2 o 3 seconds each time. That is to say, there was no complete penetration (only a partial penetration: The whole penis did not enter the vagina but only a part of the head) because when I realized I removed the penis. Is there a risk of transmission of HIV? Is the risk high? Should I take pep? I think the glans may have been covered by the foreskin (usually it happens that my glans is exposed when I do complete penetration or when I leave it to the overdraft with my hands. Not merely by becoming erect): in that case, the risk is lower because the glans is covered by the foreskin? Thank you very much for your answers!!

This situation does not call for PEP.

HIV is a fragile virus, it is not easy to transmit especially from female to male. In HIV positive women the fluids which contain transmissible quantities of the virus are not found near the vaginal opening but rather at the other end, at the cervix.

If you are concerned about this situation (and it seems that you are) you should be tested for HIV and other STIs. The window period for HIV testing is three months, so you will need to test then. A test today will not be reliable.

Whnever you decide to test, you should expect that test result to be negative.

One word of advice, what you've engaged in here is called "dipping". Unprotected dipping is not so much a risk for HIV in and of itself, but it's a problem because it can lead to unprotected fucking which is certainly a risk.

Always use condoms when you have anal or vaginal sex -- no exceptions.

Sexually active people should have a full sexual health screen at least once a year, whether they've had unprotected sex or not. Twice a year is better. It's kind of like getting your car serviced on a regular basis. It's a good habit to get into. You should also ask about being vaccinated for Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B.

I have had a similar situation on March, but I don’t know if the knowledge about the risk of dipping has changed (a month ago I did test of HIV and syphilis for the situation on March and they was negative. I’m vaccinated for Hepatitis B), so I will do the questions again: Is there a risk of transmission of HIV? Is the risk high? Should I take pep? I think the glans may have been covered by the foreskin (usually it happens that my glans is exposed when I do complete penetration or when I leave it to the overdraft with my hands. Not merely by becoming erect): in that case, the risk is lower because the glans is covered by the foreskin? I apologize if it is wrong to ask the same questions again.

Thank you very much for the answer. For your answers I know my situation does not call for PEP, but I have read topics about dipping in the section Am I Infected? and I have doubts if my case of vaginal dipping being the insertive partner and having dipped only a part of my penis (not full penetration) for 2 seconds is only a theoretical risk or a real risk but low. I promise not to ask more questions about this topic but I would appreciate an answer to this question: my situation is only a theoretical risk or a real risk but low? I ask this because I seem to be too concerned about this situation.
