C'est Comme Ca ( & other 80's videos) Inspired by Bucko
« on: July 08, 2007, 04:55:31 pm »
When Brent posted his Follow In The Footsteps of a Ragdoll dance thread yesterday he started me on a frantic 80's video music search on You Tube. Most of these bands will probably be unkown to some of you, but I am sure there a few here who know who these bands are.

First Up:  Les Rita Mitusko

C'est Comme Ca  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BggXhzUhZ94

Marcia Baila  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZ56pOwgR6E

Second Up: Klaus Nomi

Lighting Strikes  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELknoJC2WEQ

Nomi Song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKYpepxGkyY

Third Up:  A Clip from the movie Liquid Sky.

Me And My Rythm Box  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ez5Zqq2SXg

Did Anyone have that soundtrack way back in the day???

My friend Terry , who past away last year used to do a drag show at a bar in Memphis called Georges. He would do that song & it would always bring the house down. R.I.P Andromeda Europa Neptune, Love Epoxie Gleu

Joy Division; (Who later became known as a little old band called New Order)

Atmosphere  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0We9d5J3BLQ

She's Lost Control http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeC3zxDi5zI

Love Will Tear Us Apart http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0dfd_L4tDk

New Order :

Blue Monday http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niCfmQajoh0 ( Best selling 12 inch single ever)

Bizzare Love Triangle  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9Pd8ZBtZwI

Cabaret Voltaire:

Sensoria http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBEj7T7WYM8

Section 25:

Looking From A Hilltop http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eO2PGJdgtiA

Psychic TV:

Godstar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1yr8w_vZ5E

Chris & Cosey:

October Love Song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMLQ4FRsepg

I will add more later or if anyone else feels "inspired" go ahead & post something.

Best line from Liquid Sky, and ultimately so prophetic:

Oh... speaking of Robert Smith and Siouxsie -- do you remember this sidegroup project called The Glove?  I think it was around the same time that Miss Sioux did The Creatures.

bonus treat from my vault:

Skipping, by The Associates from their excellent album "Sulk" though extra credit they were originally on the label Fiction just like The Cure

I remember when I switched the radio channel at work one morning in 1984, Bela Lugosi's Dead came on. It bothered my disco dollie co-worker so much she insisted we change it back. I can't even imagine what she'd have thought of The Sisters Of Mercy  ;D

Lydia Lunch remains the platinum standard of obscure artnoise, IMHO.

Anyone else ever have the Queen Of Siam LP? It's not even on Rhapsody, and they have everything.

It's so much fun going back and listening to this music. Makes me feel young & carefree again. I also think it is amazing that we like so much of the same music from that period. I'm working now, I was going to add Lydia Lunch, Bauhaus, the Cure , Associates etc later today. I'm glad you posted it. I'll try to find some Love & Rockets, & some of their solo stuff later. Keep 'em comming!

The only vinyl record I have left from this period is a 7 inch single by the Suburban Lawns  Gidget Goes To hell b/w My Boyfriend. I wish I hung on to the albums by them they aren't on cd. Wish I had kept my Pylon album CHOMP too.

The Glove Blue Sunshine was remastered in 06 I think. They have a Myspace page. http://www.myspace.com/thegl0ve

I still have all my vinyl albums... I got rid of nothing.  It's an atrocious feat to move this crap too.  In fact 3/4 of my collection of ~8,000 pieces is still at a friends house because I refuse to move it down 3 flights of stairs and up 4 other flights.  At least it's all only 7 blocks away if I really need anything.

When I was living in Memphis with my ex Jeff we had 4 dogs, Max, Gizzmo, Jack, & Putz. They would get mad at me when I would leave to go to work or wherever so they decided that they would pee on MY records. They wouldn't pee on Jeff's, but they would on mine.  Oh, well life goes on...

In lieu of Incubus Succubus (a curious void in Youtube's otherwise comprehensive collection of such dreck), I was able to find this, which approximates the energy and utter droning eeriness of their biggest hit:

X-Mal Deutschland's Orient:

This was cool the first fifty times I heard it, before it became an overplayed cliche (but only in German, natch):
