The reality that these various terms maybe in use by some does not change the basic and implicit derogatory and racist quality of these categorizations and labels.

And any so-called "wit" is far overshadowed by the reduction of others and ourselves to terms which do not serve anyone well.

We'll be watching this thread as it hovers at the line of the acceptable and un.

You may already know about it but get some 'white brite'. This stuff actually works wonders!

Skidmarks, racing stripes, all those little embarrassing stains will be gone in one washing.

In no particular order of preference:
Hamburgers. But not just any. Juicy, well done with both fried and raw onions. Have a few favorite joints.
Potato and onion pancakes (my own especially)
Spaghetti. Either oil/butter plain or some goopy meat red sauce
Bread and especially bagettes and crunchy rye with lots of caraway seeds
Southern fried chicken (again, my own)
Salad with lots of different lettuces and olives, onions, tomatoes, stinky cheeses
seafood paella
lobster rolls
More crunchy bagettes
Croissants but only in France
Thin, crusty pizza well done
Super well done french fries

Oh, and when thunter mentioned watermelon and fried chicken queen I thought we were heading south into racist monikers again in this thread. I never heard of a watermelon queen or a fried chicken queen.

Mmmmmm....sort of. I was trying to push my point that these sort of expressions are pretty bleh. I didn't see the post that Miss Velez had posted. The whole thing tends to make me think of this....

Generally I agree, but I've had the great fortune of finding this hidden gem run by a Vietnamese family 5 blocks from my place that is every bit as good as what is found in France. And you have to get there by noon or they're just out of that day's offerings, like any good French shop. I had delicious almond pain au chocolates last week. I try and limit myself to only going once a month and buying a bag of four items, otherwise I'd pork up like Wumpy.

As far as pizza goes I still swear by the Grimaldi's location under the Brooklyn bridge on Old Fulton St.

I went to Grimaldi's once. It was a very hot summer day and there was a line down the street to get in. I've never seen a restaurant before with a line that litterly went down the street to get in, on a 90+ degree day no less.

Here is my lazy attempt to bring it full circle back to Jobs.

People will line up for anything. Hype is a great motivator. Others, like myself, will not wait on line! Unless it is by some banal necessity. Very poorly timed and unavoidable supermarket or post office visit. Etc. I can get into communal and hype affairs - festivals, parties, national holidays, parades. That sort of thing. A line for the privilege of having my pocket emptied?

People wait on lines to get into Apple Stores? To buy Apple products?
For a restaurant? In the hot sun?
For Black Friday bargains? To get stampeded to death?
For take away ice cream, because it's "so divine"?
First showing of some geeky movie?
Alexander McQueen at the Met?

There's something very PT Barnum about any product designer, cook, shop, whatever, that can inspire this devotional line-waiting.

Hat's off to that kind of mind! Jobs has it in spades.

By following the thread - I got this - So, if you are a fried chicken queen then you would be into southern boys/men ( If I am thinking right) but Mellon (Yellow meat with seeds) I am trying to figure out what that would be....
