Ok, I would want more proof. 30 years? If true, this is amazing. Btw, how in the world has the turtle evolved to live up to 200+ years? Do we just need to move more slowly? Wait, we do. I think scientists are studying them as to what gives them longevity, no?

It just seems unlikely a tortoise could live that long in a box like that . I bet that's one pissed off reptile . Just think about it , it would have sat in its own waste and urine and would have had to suffer horribly .

Perhaps she hadn’t actually been in the box for very long. Perhaps their original assumption was correct – she went out the door, and had been living in the yard for decades, and happened to wind up in the box shortly before they found her. Seems more plausible to me.

I agree with this comment under that article.

If it were a box turtle then it would totally make sense . ba da bing .

Here in the UK they call making a joke like that "boxing clever". ;D
If the story's true, it's amazing. I kinda think it's not strictly accurate though.

I put the box on the pavement for the rubbish men to collect, and a neighbor said, ‘You’re not throwing out the turtle as well are you?’
How did the neighbor know there was a turtle in the box? weird.

The whole story doesn't add up . How does a turtle disappear for 30 years and then climb or fall into a box . I had an aunt that had a box turtle who dug a burrow under the concrete slab under the front porch . I think it lived there for the twenty years she owned the house and we used to feed it veggies when we visited .
