Wondering whether to ask about blood test results?

I'm a bit worried that this may be a daft question but here goes... A good friend of mine is HIV+ (he's had it nearly 20 years but I've only known for a few months). He recently casually told me in a text that he was going for his regular blood tests (it was in a message about other things). I wished him luck at the time but am now not sure whether to ask him about the results. What do you think?

Depends on how close you are.

If you don't know whether or not to ask then you probably shouldn't. If he wants to tell you his results he will. Some HIVers are ok being asked these sorts of things, others are intensely private about it.

I would agree with Matty on this.  Since you have only known this guy for a few months just hold off.  I am almost sure he will tell you when after he gets the results back.

I was just on Facebook talking with one of my friends from Atlanta - she knows my status - I haven't seen her since high school - but she had all kinds of questions -- just revealed to her a few months ago -- She was talking about the ADAP situation and how it infuriates her.  I would say to wait and see if your friend brings it up to you -- and if they don't you could always ask if its okay if you ask.... it would show interest and concern.  Some people may take someone not asking as them not being concerned or kind of wanting to be in denial about reality ---- I have some friends and family like that - they don't ask, don't want to know because they don't want to have to deal with it.... (My mom and dad are like that - they know I'm + - but never ask or want to know anything about my labs, meds, drs. appts. or anything) --- Gauge it out and see how it goes --- as long as your motivations for asking are out of genuine concern, if its meant to be revealed, it will be okay and may even be welcomed by your friend.
