Starting a new class...
« on: May 05, 2007, 11:56:44 pm »
I'm currently working on a BS degree in psychology.  So far, my GPA is 3.33.  I guess that's alright, though I would like to get it up some.  Anyway, Wednesday night I start a new class called "Research Methods in Psychology."  A few friends who have their degrees in psych say that class is hard.  I already have the syllabus.  There is going to be SO much work that involves doing a survey with the outcome and why, reviewing a literature topic etc.  At the university I go to, the classes are eight weeks long.  There's still all the work of a regular 15 or 16 week semester, just jammed into eight weeks.  Voc. Rehab is paying for my degree, since having AIDS (yes, I've had the diagnosis) is one of their disabilities to where they will pay for a bachelor's in something or job training.  The last eight weeks I took "Abnormal Psychology" and got an A in it.  That's how it is with most of my psych classes and I'm starting to think that it's because me and my life is just full of psychology! :D  Anyway, when I graduate, I'm going to be an addictions counselor.  Wish me luck.......

Lordy!  I wish there was funding for something like that here in Georgia.  Fat chance, I suppose.

Good luck!

Yes, I feel very fortunate that they have something like voc. rehab here.  I also get pell grants, so after voc. rehab pays the bill, the rest of the money from the pell grants they don't have to use to make up the difference, I get direct deposited.  That has helped me to get a vehicle and a 30-ince widescreen t.v. with surround sound.  Hey, education is good for something. ;)

Tadams:
You wouldn't happen to be from Hunington, IN, would you?  Just wondering because your MO is the same as someone else we know.....
Anyway, I'm going to be an addictions counselor, since I have a lot of experience in that particular subject! :D  I know there's not a lot of money to be made in the field; that's not why I'm going into it.  I just want to give back what I've been given.  I will only be working to make as much as social security allows people (I believe it's $865?) to keep my Medicare part D prescription plan.  I can't afford to lose that!  Last year they paid $42,000.00 worth of medication for me and there's no way I could ever make it without that.

Funny thing....I was just about to say last night that I knew an excellent individual for a case study in crazy for you if you needed one!
