New Here
« on: March 22, 2013, 08:37:05 pm »
I have known of my poz result since August 2010 and it has not been easy. If it had not been for some good friends around me at that time I do not know what would have happened to me. Somedays i do not remember that i am poz because I am not on meds as yet, i live in the caribbean. The only time I remember that i am is when someone comes into my life. the hardest thing is the love aspect of my life. However, the illness has led me to pursue a career in the medical field and focus on the boimedical aspect of HIV. Just looking to make some friends here battling the same thing as me.

Hi Lane!

Welcome to our humble abode.

Are you not on meds because you are a LTNP (long term non-progressor)? What are your numbers?

Yes, The love aspect can be difficult. I find it very difficult at times.

Look forward to seeing you around!

The clinical definition of LTNP is "low plasma HIV-RNA levels (<10,000 copies/mL); asymptomatic for several years with high CD4+ and CD8+ T cell counts (>500 cells/μL)" so you're right on the cusp in terms of viral load.

Hello Lane,
Welcome to the forums.
With time you get used to the diagnosis.
I hope you get to meet someone educated on HIV and accepting of you and your status. Have you tried meeting someone who is positive?
My partner and I are both positive, and believe me, it makes things a lot easier in many aspects.
Hugs to you
Karry
Take it a day at a time....and be positive about it too!

I live in a small country in the caribbean, so there is a lot of individuals who buy into myths and what not such as: if a woman is poz she cannot have a baby let alone one that is negative. Many are not open-minded to being in a serodiscordant union. I have met 2 ppl who are poz but they did not have the desire to live any more and it gets very depressing. But some day i would like to marry and settle down, but i honestly do not think the person is going to come from the country i live in. However i am well educated on HIV,pursuing career to be a doctor who specialises in immunology, and i have accepted the status, it is just the loving part of my life that is missing.
