Title: Possibly came in contact with HIV? symptoms..
Post by: thatoneguyyy on March 13, 2012, 08:22:10 pm
I am a 20 year old gay male.
I recently got into a really serious relationship. The two of us have done nothing sexual yet because i have been having scares that i may be positive.
I havent had anal sex in around 3 years, and the last time i did something was around new years, and i gave someone a blowjob but i spit the semen out. And a gave oral to someone else but he came on the ground no where near my mouth.
I just feel like some of the symptoms i have are HIV.
My tongue has white spots, which i thought were oral thrush, but the doctor said it wasnt, even though it does look like a lot of pictures of it and online it said that thrush was a common symptom of HIV. I put contacts in the other day and noticed my eyelids are really red which is another symptom. And for the past month i have gotten a small ulcer that gets a tiny bit bigger, in the same spot.
Has anyone experienced these symptoms? Even though i never swallowed anything, could i have been put at risk?
I've been really scared and talked to my boyfriend, and hes been really supportive.

HIV is not transmitted by oral sex.

What if i possibly swallowed some semen? Could that pose as a risk?

No that does not pose a risk.

So my symptoms could all be something else?
its been years since anal sex and even then we used a condom.
it was oral sex that got me confused.

If your doctor did not diagnose you with thrush, you likely do not have thrush. My thrush always hurts like hell.

Nothing you write sounds anything like HIV (and you know we don't use symptoms to diagnose stuff on this forum).

You might want to get a full STD panel if you are going to regularly have unprotected oral sex (and almost everyone does) = once or twice a year. And if you throw an HIV test in there, it will certainly help alleviate the stigma surrounding that test.

But I don't see this as AN HIV concern. Wear a condom for penetrative sex and you will avoid HIV infection :)

As for the thrush, he said it wasnt, but he still prescribed some mouth wash.
And yeah , i read aout the symptoms thing after >.< sorry.
And im going in tuesday just to make sure, my boyfriend recently went to get tested and he will be getting his results back in a couple of days.
Overall for me, its just my mouth that is really freaking me out with this "thrush"

If your doctor has already advised you that you didn't have thrush then accept the fact you don't have thrush.

Like Rod I don't see any reason to think you're HIV positive. But apparently it has been some time since you have had an HIV test or a test for all other STDs.

Why not get tested and confirm your negative status. We encourage everyone who is sexually active to do that at least annually. That way you can remove any doubts you have about your status.

Also, it's important to know that until you are in a securely monogamous relationship in which both partners have reliably tested negative together, until then you should always be using condoms for anal (and vaginal) intercourse.

Given what you have reported I expect you will test negative.

So i recently went in for a physical and had blood drawn. My appointment for std testing isnt for another week. but in the results for my blod. it said i was 2.0 below the average count for red blood cells. how significant is that result in correlation to hiv?

It is not significant at all. HIV infects a certain type of white blood cell. It has nothing to do with red blood cells.
