Who's carving pumpkins???
« on: October 24, 2010, 10:51:56 am »
So is anyone else celebrating the season by making Jack-O-Lanterns? I went to the pumpkin patch yest and had a carving party at my place. It was a fun time and a lot of laughs with some really great friends. I'm attaching a pic, but I'll obviously post one of it at night and all lit up. Oh btw his name is Lorenzo :)

Haven't done on in a long time, really since my kids were young'uns. But I saw one the other day that I really liked. Instead of carving it out from the top, they turned the pumpkin on its side and used the thingie that sticks out of the top of the pumpkin as the nose for the face of the jack-o-lantern. Very fun.

They started Halloween a week early yesterday and lots of kids and a few adults were running around in costumes. My fave was someone just casually ambling along with a big black stuffed raven on her head.

What a great idea to turn the pumpkin on its side. Now that is creativity!!! You should carve one for old times sake! I had forgotten how much work it is to scoop them out and clean them up, but it was so much fun!

Great Pumpkins! Pumpkin :)

I was never any good at carving Pumpkins, I never got an award for my pumpkin in elementary school :( I'm still scarred to this day from the laughter from the other kids.

Although I do like to get the seeds out and roast them!

Lorenzo looks good, Nice job!

I got some for the kids and I carved them out so we could do the pumpkin seeds, the kids hacked them up and the squirrels have been going at them every night.

I like to do it for the seeds and the fun the kids get out of it.  I love this time of year!

awesome night-time pix. ;D

I thought about roasting some... what temp and cook time do you use?
toss with olive oil, or melted butter. spread on a cookie sheet.
(optional: sprinkle with salt/seasonings/pepper/parmesan /etc)
cook at 300 degrees for about 30 mins. stir occasionally

Seeing all these pumpkins has me debating on whether to make pumpkin/cranberry muffins or pumpkin bars w/ cream cheese icing

I don't carve pumpkins, nor do I give out candy, not do I wear a costume and go to a party.

Lorenzo,
Great job on the pumpkins. Years ago we tried it with our kids, but they were grossed out by the slime in the pumpkins... KIDS! Now we don't have pumpkins in our present country. Cutting up a Hubbard squash is just not the same.
Man I miss making and eating pumpkin pies!

Thanks for naming him Lorenzo, reminded me of a guy I used to work with.

I cleaned all the orange straggly yuck out and just threw some salt on them at 350 till they were a nice golden brown.

Hey Numbie, Mickie and Snow, I haven't had the energy to cut a pumpkin in years, but you have INSPIRED ME! Thanks. 8)  Haven't  roasted seeds in 20 years. I love the smell of a fresh cut pumpkin.  I do believe I am going to get one from the neighbor tomorrow and let er rip. Hubby is thinking maybe  he could get really detailed with his rotozip.  Anyone ever try this?  Naming him Lorenzo sounds like hubby. He names everything;  named the scarecrow in the garden and brings home critters from the yard all the time. turtles, baby rabbits, birds, yesterday it was a Bullfrog!

I couldn't figure out the problem either. the picture URLs you used (which matched with the live pictue embed URL) seemed to link to the album instead and not the picture. ::) So I cheated and grabbed the picture URLs for you  ;) Very cool!

hello numbersguy,

i have a pumpkin sitting on my kitchen table. i will carve it soon. the year before last we carved them too early and they were not good by the time halloween came.

is that your place? do you have a maid? my place never looks that tidy. man, i think i need to move or upgrade my lifestyle. i've been in a hippie mindset too long. not that it bothered me but some of my friends have made comments.  you guys are keeping that bar pretty high.

best,

We are doing ours right now.  Actually my husband is still working on one that the girls picked out.  They pick the hardest patterns.  Mine was easy so I'm done already. ;D  I will get some photos up here when they are all done.

Great work on all the others, loved the shark idea.
