Title: Hello, I am hoping for some advice on my recent sexual encounter.
Post by: 1worriedguy on December 04, 2013, 10:58:11 am
Hello everyone,

Being that i have come this far I think everyone can believe that I am worried about my current situation. Any advice or information would be very welcomed.

On Nov. 7th (28 days ago) I had sex with a massage parlor girl. I was wearing a condom but during the act the condom broke. It took me a little time to realize something felt different and so i pulled out and stopped the act.

The condom did infact break all the way and i was exposed inside her for what i would say was no less than 30 seconds and no more than a minute.

I felt very upset.

None of this means anything: The girl is in her mid to late 20's and seem to be healthy. She didnt seem alarmed and just said that I should bring my own condom next time. She provided this one. I asked her her std status and she said she gets checked every three months and is std free including hiv.

5 days after (Nov 12th) the lymph nodes in my neck became swollen and discomforting with a very mild soar throat. This lastest 7 days with no other symptoms.

Right after that i felt fine for a day or two. Than (Nov 21st) I got pains in my back next to my liver area and kidney area, chronic diariah 2 to 3 times per day, abdominal pain, my temerature would rise from 98.6 to 99.5 whenever eat  something , no appitite at all with nausia, and i have lose 18 to 20 pounds. Also, my throat has become horse like and scratchy, have to clear my throat to get my hole voice working and a very mild cough.

Never got a true fever (over 100), no rashes, no swollen lyph nodes other than the first week that went away after 7 days, no ulcers.

This has continued from the 21st until today (13 days).

I went to my GP, The ER, and a GI. Everyone is stumped because nothing is drawing a red flag.

In between this time (Nov 25th) 18 days post incident I had my GP do an HIV1/2 Antibody test and all std's test that all came back negative. Is that a bit early?

Atleast i think it verifies that if i do ever test positive it will be from this one incident for sure?

Could all of these health issues be related or coincidental. Any thought or recommendation or infromation would be so helpful.

Thank you for this great forum,

1WG

The risk of a condom break of short duration although low is still a risk and you will need to test at 6 weeks past any possible exposure and again at 3 months to confirm the result .

Its no use discussing symptoms because they could be from may other conditions and the only way to know is to test .

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than HIV. Some of the other STDs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid HIV infection. It really is that simple!

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your reply. Understood.

I always practice safe sex and the test i took at 18 days post exposer of this incident, being a negative result, I believe was a good assesment of that.

I have made a heart felt choice to stay away from intercorse out side of a commited relationship from here on out.

I will get tested at 6 weeks and if negative follow up at the 3 month window.

Just was curious what your opinion would be if i went and tested say tomorrow being 4 weeks and a day. What would the accuracy persentage be and would it be worth it?

The only reason is the anxiety is getting to me alot.

Thanks again,

The average time to seroconversion is 22 days. Most who are infected will test positive by 6 weeks. For various reasons a small number will take longer and that is why we follow the CDC recommendation to test at 3 months for a conclusive negative result.

There really is no need to test before 6 weeks .
