He was lucky!  I am surprised that nobody on the ground was killed by flying rotor debris. I just caught this, this morning.

Jan, was that close to you? One lucky Pilot.

This happened in the North Island Rod, I was in Auckland ( the North Island) for a couple of days doing a voice over for a" Living with HIV" DVD and would you believe I was on my way to the Airport, heading home to the South Island and the Taxi driver pointed out the Christmas tree location to me, lots of work going on but no chopper at that stage, the accident must have happened not that long after though, it's a two and a half hour flight from Auckland and I heard the news in the car on my way home...that was some scary stuff, he was very lucky, the seat belt saved him.

If you look at the video again the tall black steel structure is the *trunk* of the tree, the wire coming out at the side of it will hold wired hoops that start big at the bottom and get smaller as they get to the top, and it's then covered in a kind of rough green hesien material and then decorated...it's a huge structure and looks beautiful with all the lights and decoration on it, even though it's an artificial tree it works well.. ;)

Hope I've explain it in a way you can see what I mean and can visualise it.
