POZcasts have arrived!
« on: August 13, 2006, 04:15:38 pm »
It seems that aidsmeds and poz.com have embraced the video wave of the future and now have there own podcast/vidblog type thingee.

I am very happy to see this here as many of us have highspeed dialup to view these videos and it brings important information to the people and puts a face behind the message.

I think this is great (perhaps inspired by my vidblogs?)

I strongly urge you all to continue doing this type of content.  Vid/audio is the way of the future I think.   More and more people will prefer to access content via video if able (which is not a replacement for text but a supplement to)

I think this is damn kool.

The only question i would have is the host... it's not poz.com... i'm not familiar with that site so maybe you could provide a bit of background for it.

Oh My,
  POZcasting !!!  ;D

Lets see,  Its not exactly TIKI BAR.. or the HIV version of Rocketboom..
This is a great addition to the AIDSmeds site and I look foreware to seeing some stuff from the other Moderators, Bloggers and Guest Stars.
Excellent Idea, and I look foreward to more.
There are some obvious audio synch problems,  and it would be nice if he wasn't seemingly looking at the floor throughout the whole thing but overall it was a pretty decent  noob run into Vid casting.

Hey you aren't going to like this so maybe you don't want to read  this.
Blogs of any kind are for the most part  boring and self centered. The human interest angle goes so far. The blogger has a bad day with
                                                       The regiment
                                                       The equipment
                                                       The dog next door
                                                       Their hair

blah blah blah blog.
How about picking it up a notch and get interviews with docs researchers. pharmas
Something a little more interesting then " Seen the doc, says not to worry about the drop in t cells"

WE KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!

Get Peter or Tim , or Andy to talk about how they ended up at  Aidmeds, for a start ! Talk with dieticians who specialize in HIV patients. Ask politicians if their policies are misinformed about sex education.
Get cutting edge! This can be a tool to  use to foward  prevention  or justmore of the same shite.

just my opinion - that I feel doesn't need to be blog casted

Ann,
Theres a banner ad for the POZ Casts on the Home page when you log in , just click on it.
Even with a highspeed connection it took several minutes to buffer and load, so open a cold one ( or for you Brits a lukewarm one)  and get to see Peter Staley speak....

I don't know if this really would be considered a Video Blog, since it isn't about Peter himself, but rather a webcast series of News and lessons but Im sure theyre looking at our responses to see what the audience is willing to watch....
I'm sure that in  time a bit more personality and style will come through, videocasting is quite different than doing an interview or commentary in a news program in that its completely in your own hands, a case of "Too Much Control' if you will,  theres lighting, camera angles, sound , and the all important Hair and Wardrobe considerations to take into account, which is probablly why most of us get Crocked before we do one.

Not much to it if you ask me. Just another avenue for advertisement.

I like the addition.

I would go with a different background, or add a plant and a picture, or something.  I kept expecting the shot to zoom out to reveal the hooded hostage-takers with their sabers and machine guns in hand.

Thank you sweetheart! I wasn't looking forward to disabling my whatsis... or my thingy either for that matter. :D

I agree about the background - institutional green - yuck.

It also would be a good idea for Peter to have his cue cards slightly above or level with the camera instead of below it. I felt like he was talking to my tits - and any women reading this will know exactly what I mean when they watch the podcasts. It's something every woman experiences - I hate it when that happens. So does my daughter and she's been known to grab the chin of the offending male to help them raise their gaze. LOL She's got a lot to look at and she gets it all the time and it drives her batty.

Anyway, interesting stuff and I have a feeling that they might get more interesting as time goes on too. But for now, my lips are sealed or a little birdy might drop something on my head from a great height. :P

Damn Ann,
I was trying to be tactfull when I mentioned the way he was looking at the Cue cards, but now that you mention it he dos seem to be gazing at some titties, now I feel all bashfull.  Its always nice to share constructive criticism.

Lwood -- why would I be looking at tits?  It was your crotch I was staring at.

Actually, these "POZcasts" (yes, we've trademarked this name), where put together very quickly (2 weeks ago) to have them ready for Toronto, where we could show them to potential sponsors.  If we start doing these regularly, we'll definitely upgrade the filming procedure (studio, proper camera angles, etc., so I'm not looking at your crotch or tits).  I literally did these from my PA home office, with a sheet hanging behind me (which they digitally replaced with that green background), using a webcam on top of my computer screen, which I was reading from (thus the bad camera angle).

Johnny -- I kind of agree with your comments.  Did you listen to our podcasts (audio only) from Toronto?  Check them all out at http://www.aidsmeds.com/IAC2006.htm.  I think, and many of the POZ folks think so as well, that our audio interviews in Toronto were far more interesting than these POZcasts.  And besides, I do a much better interview (podcasts) than I do reading a script (POZcasts) -- that's for sure.  So if we end up doing more POZcasts, I'm hoping others at POZ will step in front of the camera.

You can expect to hear many more podcast interviews with researchers, activists, etc., on AIDSmeds.com!

Peter
