my toilet is my new best frien
« on: November 30, 2010, 11:29:08 am »
OMG! I feel like hell.  Day 7 after starting treatment, and I am nauseas, the room spins for an hour, and generally I feel stoned and nauseas for about 3 hours after taking my meds. I was started on Truvada/Norvir/Reyataz. It was decided based on numerous factors that the best time for my medication was in the morning. I really wish I had read some of these forums before I started  all this, ...this is horrid

Well medications have their side effects. It's a burden. Be grateful you're not on Kaletra.

That said, your current combo shouldn't be that hardcore when it comes to making poopie come out of your hiney hole. Try taking some metamucil, that's pretty good at stabilising your dookies.

Dirkwood,

It may take a few weeks to get used to the meds.

If you can, it may help to take them in the evening with dinner, instead of the morning.

Drink water, and as Matty says, fiber should help.....

Don't panic if your eyes go a bit yellow on this combo at first, it usually settles down after a while.

Good luck......

Sorry to hear about your nausea etc.

This is an unusual reaction for this combo, so deffo speak to your doc. Food is essential with this combo for it to work proper.

Some people are particularly sensitive to Norvir.

Meds are very individual, what suits one don't suit another.

Hey Dirk I'm on the same medications as you. I take them with some type of bread like a bagel or toast at bedtime. I haven't had any side effects except occasional headaches and my eyes are kinda red now. I just started taking hiv meds 2 weeks ago. Anyway, hope this helps some.

Hey Dirkwood,

This can be a rare side effect of Reyataz - you could change this part of your combo to another drug - there are plenty of options.

When do you see your doctor next?

I'm on the same meds your taking. I've been on them for over 2 weeks now. I'm tolerating the meds really well. But now my eyes are turning kinda yellow. Is there anything I can do like eye drops or something? How long does it take for the yellow to go away? Any advice you can give me I'd really appreciate it.

there isn't much you can do
the yellow in your eyes is reytaz effecting your liver
i had the same problem, i was told it should clear up on its own
in a few weeks
mine didn't clear and got so bad i was asked a few times if i had a real bad alcohol problem!
it ended up that i had to change my meds
you should let your doctor know and keep a close watch on it.

I can certainly relate to the toilet issues. More than 4 months on and they are still the same as the first week of starting this regime.

Such fun.

Hi Dirk, Ive been on that combo for 2 years. I had the same problems youre having for the first few months unfortunately but now I have zero side effects.I take it in the evening around dinnertime. I had tried a combo with sustiva in it before and thought I was going crazy (dizzy, really out of it) so Id much rather have the puking and runs for a little while than the dizzy and spun out.
Also, Brad...the doc said to let them know if the reyataz was making my eyes and skin yellow, so you might want to call your doc.

Hi,

I wish I could go to the toilets!

I was so scared of the famous toilets visits that I carefully monitored my toilets time everyday for 2 month before starting meds.

Right on the the clock at 10 AM everyday. (I usually take all these fiber supplements and they have worked fine for me)

Since starting the meds (and unexpectedly) I suffer from mild constipation (at the beginning) and it is currently getting a bit worse.

And none of my usual tricks seem to work.

Shit! I need to get to the bottom of it and ... S**t (pleeeeaaaaase ...)

Cheers

Eric

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm seeing my doctor next week to let her know about my eyes turning yellow. Man this really sucks! I thought I was doing well tolerating the meds.

I've been on HIV MEDS for the last 18 yrs. and I can tell you this, you will get used to it (all of the side-effects) they might cause you, after that long, I still have them, but, I've learned to suck-it-up
and take most of it, if the side-effect do get too bad, tell your doctor, and also, it's important to report
any and all side-effect to the Drug Companies as well, I still do this after all these years, and YES
I had an on-going relationship with my toilet for many years now, you can say were Married, and I do visit the toilet several times a day ;)

Denb45, You know youre right about just adjusting to the side effects- I realized I said I have zero side effects but my toilet and I have a close relationship as well.

My doctor called me and wants to take me off the Reyataz. I'm seeing her next Tuesday. When your doctor took you off Reyataz, what med did he replace it with? Did the yellow leave your eyes after you stopped taking Reyataz?  I appreciate any advice you can give me.
