financially poor and positive

I know immediate care is the most important thing once you test positive, but if you have no medical insurance and no $, how can you get immediate treatment/ started on medication? Do you have to wait until you qualify for low income insurance? It seems like that would take too long. If you're very poor and uninformed how do you get the quickest treatment? If you have any insight on this question of mine I'd be very appreciative.

Locate a local AIDS Service Organization. Make an appointment with a case manager. They will hook you up with care funded by Ryan White and medications, when needed, through ADAP (AIDS Drug Assistance Program). They will have you fill out a bunch of forms so be prepared to verify your residency status, proof on income or lack thereof, proof of HIV diagnosis.

If you qualify for Medicaid they will get you on that too.

unity    Welcome to the forums.  There are all kinds of resources available for a start you should look for a ASO near you, A ADAP program or a Ryan White Program.  Also check out the AIDSMED part of this site. Lots of helpful info.     . Have you had a confirmed positive dx? Keep in touch and Best of luck to you.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems but it will annoy enough people to make it worthwhile.                              The point of the journey is not to arrive.
