I've been searching for an answer and can't seem to find one.  I even asked Doc, and she can't answer to my satisfaction, so I thought I'd post it here.

How come at age 8 medicine dosages/ concentrations change?  It doesn't matter about weight gain / loss, growth changes, or VL / cd4 counts.  For some mystical reason, it just changes. Doc said that once Mini is 8, she'll actually take LESS medication (sometimes only half as much per kilo).  Does anyone know why or have a half-way educated guess? 

Doc said it changes again at the mystical ages of 12 and 16, also, each time getting less per kilo.  This really perplexes me.

Younger children metabolise drugs at different rates to adults, usually faster - therefore, for the same height/weight ratio, smaller kiddies often need more drug than bigger adults.  8 somehow is one of the "magic" ie safe cut off ages.  I am not sure what has exactly happened by 8 that makes it so though.
