Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

The past week and a half, I have been unable to function. I am a 19 year old gay male. On June 21st, I had unprotected oral sex with a 52 year old married bi man, who I suspect is very promiscuous. We both performed oral sex on one another. He did not cum in my mouth, and as far as I know, I had no cuts or sores in my mouth. However, while going online, even though I know some members of this forum will say that oral sex is not a risk, I saw on several reputable websites, that oral sex, even in the absence of ejaculation, even in the absence of oral damage, was a risk, albeit low.

The day after the exposure, I underwent a 24 hour fever and vomiting
Over a week has passed, and each day, I wait for when I can get tested. Would a PCR test be accurate now? Would it be warranted?
If I were to get an oraquick test at 29 days, how accurate would it be?

Also, I have developed some type of rash on my trunk, I have enclosed a picture. Please assess

Basically I think you are worrying needlessly. Stop surfing the net because I promise you that all that will do is give you fuel to feed your worst fears to no good purpose.

Giving oral is only theoretically a risk. In the real world of HIV we know that the risk for the sexual transmission of HIV is about unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. Your saliva has over a dozen elements and proteins which are very effective in preventing the transmission of viable HIV if it is present. And receiving oral is absolutely no risk whatsoever for HIV.

Your symptoms? There is nothing HIV specific about what you have described or shown in that picture. If any of them persist I suggest you discuss them with your doctor.

I don't see any need for testing on your part. If you do decide to test strictly for your own peace of mind, do a standard ELISA test at 6 weeks. And I say that only because you're so worried and not because I see any real need for testing. If you had a genuine risk then I would be saying test at 13 weeks for a conclusive result. In your case 6 weeks is enough and I don't expect anything other than a negative result for you.

You're a young guy and perhaps not that experienced sexually at this point. If I am correct about that, just take your time as you explore your sexuality. Don't do anything you aren't comfortable with. And if you have intercourse, make sure the insertive partner is always wearing a condom and you'll be well protected from HIV.

Now take a breath and get on with your life.
