Welcome!

I have to vote for good genes.  If it wasn't for one trait from my mother and one from my father, I would not have nearly such a relatively easy time.  Not smoking or drinking or doing drugs, and eating well and exercising help, too.

Well , I guess if that floats your boat, and works for you, thats all that matters ! Personally, I put  more faith and trust in those intelligent minds in the scientific fields, that are working to find a cure or vaccine, or trying to find less toxic drugs for us to take. I like to remain focused and realistic, but I also remain very hopeful.

Oh,...and also what David says !

Survivors are people who through shere "will" and "strength" have the ability to overcome obstacles and go on living.
Its pretty significant that all of the responders to the poll have put strength first.
Its surely strength that gets us through the tough times.

I have posted these words before on these forums. The following is framed in my doctor's waiting room for all to read:

(Author Unknown)

"A person who is fearless with a will to win,

To battle endless obstacles,

to be relentless in the struggle to survive, with an intense determination

to face the toughest opponent, and remain hopeful, is the definition

of a true fighter."

I'm afraid I chalk it up to luck of the draw myself. I can't attribute it to any special qualities because I lost too many friends who overshadow any meager qualities I might posses. Too many who matched me in strength and will any day of the week but for whatever biological reason where no match for the virus. I want to remember them as special and to do that I must remember that I am just lucky. Nothing special, just lucky.

Yeah, I vote luck too... and med adherence.   I've smoked the entire time and I've also had periods of heavy drug use.  I was always amazed when I'd have lab work done after a coke binge and my numbers would improve... I could go on and on.

Most of us Picked strength...because its not hoping we do...
We or I ususally ask god to give me strength...

Its funny but my mother used to say the same thing when things
were going to well and know I say the same words.

Strength is what got me though 23 yrs of being hiv...
Its a struggle and you need strength almost on a daily basis..

Remember that song.."Only the Strong survive"?.....Maybe theres some
truth in that...

We are alot stronger than most people due to this disease..
Guess its the same with cancer patients as well..
I feel sorry for them because they go under khemo ..lose there hair, there appearance
changes and they have to do that darn khemo for months, and just hope it works.

My friend had ovarian cancer, she went and did what she had to do..Khemo and all.
Was negative for 2 yrs and doing quite well..

Later on, a bit after 2 yrs, she developed lung disease and it was in operable...
Still she hung on, took her khemo and radiation, lost her hair again, and we all
said, your going to make it ..You did it before and you can do it again..

Sadly, she didn't make it and passed away at 52...She was my best friend,
and I look up to her courage and strength....

At times, I think cancer is worse than hiv or aids..
I know theres no cure for aids..but cancer keeps fooling you..You think you got it all taken care of after going though hell, only to have it come back and bite you on your
ass...

All in all, we must remain strong and keep a good attitude... ;)
Live Love Laugh and dance like no ones watching.
Laughter is the best medicine, so try to have a laugh everyday..Even if your not feeling your best, think about something that was funny at one time in your life and work with it..   :o)

Life is Worth Living  :D

Strength, regardless of where we obtain it, is the determining factor in survival. Hope is good to have, but when the chips are down and you are facing yet another hopeless situation, it takes strength to pull you through.

Oh, by the way, welcome aboard Awpies. Glad you have joined us.

HUGS,
