I need some tech. help
« on: February 28, 2008, 08:41:54 pm »
I downloaded the emoticon site that Iggy posted.  The download said that it saved it in my documents, so can I tried to add one through the "additonal options" thingy at the bottom.  All it would do was put up the whole thing and not open so I could put up just one. Do I need to dump them into the pail thing first?  If I set them up as a "picture" will they still be animated or is there something else I need to do?

Remember: speak slowly and in very specific easy terms.  I'm NOT computer savvy and do best if you can draw me a "picture".  Thanks!

Mum (who goes and sits next to Snow so we can learn together ;D)

edited to add updated info as I've tried to put up an emoticon...and failed :(

I followed the directions on the site and all it left here was a bunch of garble and no picture.  Well, crap!  I need help.

Did it work?

No dear mum, but I would like to know what thread Iggy posted that in.  I'd like to try it myself.

Don't give up.  I don't have a clue about things like that, but I'll give 'er a try.

Betty, it's reply #341 in the "movie" thread.  I've tried a couple of times and I can't get it to work :'(  It's on my tool bar and tells me how to do it.  i follow the directions, but it doesn't work.  I wonder if it's a VISTA thing, but I've coded that everything is OK. I just don't understand :(

I went to that link in t he movies thread. I right clicked on the smiley i wanted and saved it. Then i went to www.imageshack.us/ That's what i use to upload my pics i post here. I upload it there and copy the code on the direct link to imagine. Then i click on the insert imagine and paste it (its right under the italicized feature)

Hope I didnt confuse you any worse...im sure someone has an easier way to do it. Im not too bright when it comes to computers.

You don't have to save them to anywhere - the site says Hotlinking is allowed which means you can link to their site and use their servers intead of having to use photobucket's or imageshack's servers.

All you have to do is (left) click on the smiley you want, then scroll back up to the blue bar near the top of the page where a code will appear. Highlight the code and right click your mouse and choose "copy", then come back here and paste it into your post.

I have to have someone here actually showing me how to do it, step by step.  When I get back in town, I'm going to have brother's gf come over, since she's the tech-head.

I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's how we figured it out.

1: I went to www.planetsmiles.net
2: I found the smiley that i wanted and left clicked the number under it.
3: I went to the url for posting (bbcodes for forums)
4: I put the arrow on the link and right clicked.  I went down to the last option "select all" and clicked it.
5: Keep the arrow in the box and right click again.  Then I chose "copy"
6: I minimized the planetsmiles site and came back to here.
7: I right clicked again and selected "paste"
Before i hit "post" it showed up as a code.  But, once I posted it, it came up as my little moo-cow picture.

WHEW!  Burned out a few braincells on that one!
