Quick health opinion
« on: November 16, 2006, 05:01:59 pm »
As most of you know I am visiting my family. I seem to have caught a nasty chest cold. I emailed my i.d. and they suggested I go to the ER here to get checked out. However at the momment I am just on MN insurance so the ER will not be covered.
Can I just try to wait it out? I know it is not PCP as my t-cell was 489 last month. Any advice?
Thanks!

"I seem to have caught a nasty chest cold." There you go, most likely explanation.  Your CD4 count is nearly into normal range so I wouldn;t worry.  If it don't get better then see a doc.

I would agree, that it most likely is a cold or flu and that with your cd4's you should be fine.  For others who need an emergency room yet don't go because of insurance issues, (most?) emergency room visits are covered by (federal? state?) funds expressly for paying hospitals to take patients who show up without insurance.  (I can speak only for MA.)  I am sure that someone will fill in my obvious gaps of knowledge here.  The point is that no one should not go to an emergency room for an emergency.  Win

It's going around.  I haven't had a cold in around 5 years... but I also caught that "nasty chest cold".  It seems like it's going to be worse than it is.  After 2 days of really bad sore throat, the cold settled in.  Now after just 3 days, I'm beginning to feel like I'm turning the corner on it.  Just be patient.  One out of every 2 people in my office has gotten it... and they're healthy.  My cd4 is much lower than yours, but that isn't always a marker of good immune function.
