In the name of humanity i am begging you to help me
« on: June 19, 2011, 08:38:35 am »
Hello

I am from Jordan ( ASIA center of Middle East) 29 years old , one month ago i tested my blood and i discovered that iam diagnosed with AIDS , my CD4 counted 188 and my VL counted 79000

MY doctor adviced me to start with HAART directly and i found that the only place in Jordan which offer HIV medication is Ministry of Health and they provide ONLY COMBIVIR and KALETRA  and they told me that they don't have another medicine for HIV .

I started with COMBIVIR and KALETRA ( 2 pills of COMBIVIR and 4 pills of KALETRA daily) and i suffered from scary side effect , my doctor advised me to switch my drugs to ATRIPLA , and unfortunately there is no place in Jordan can offer ATRIPLA and i heard that ATRIPLA is very expensive .

I am working in restaurant and i earn 430 US Dollar per month.

In the name of humanity i am begging you to help me by providing me ATRIPLA , i am dying slowly .

Thanks

There is a much less expensive generic version of Atripla called Viraday. It is only legally available in some countries, but if you google it, you may be able to find a current price in your currency, but it is a small fraction of the Atripla price.

hey buddy, I am also on Kaletra Combivir 6 pills per day and Thank God the side effects are not so bad..
what kinda side effects are u dealing with? maybe you can manage them with some other pills, a good diet and sports.
This combination even though is not recommended as the first line, it's very good for the CD4 and helping the VL to drop very fast..
So I suggest to give urself some time, that your body will adjust to the treatment.

Good luck.
There's too much confusion.

Viraday still costs a few hundred dollars a month.  It is made in India. It is possible the price of Virady varies from one country to another, depending on the middleman.

I am sorry for your situation and location.

I wanted to explain that in AIDSMEDS, we are just a bunch of individual citizens. There is no mechanism on this forum to help people financially.  Even sending drugs is a bit on the discrete side.  In some countries, it is illegal to send drugs and exchange drugs and donate drugs to others.

I wanted to welcome you to the forum and ask that you give us some more information so more people might have some practical suggestions for you.

Do you know when you were infected with HIV.

(If it is a very recent infection, you may be feeling sick just for the moment, until your sytem gets used to it.)

What are the side effects that your HAART is giving you?

When did you start your HAART?

There is often a few week adjustment period when you might have some side effects, that will eventually settle down.

Are you planning to be treatment adherent to 95-100% or thereabouts?  If so, you are not "slowly dying".  The HAART will stamp down the virus and eventually your immune system will rebuild.

Until you figure out a way to pay or access the HAART combintation you want, PLEASE take the HAART that you have, and faithfully, every day.   You may find that you are feeling better in a few weeks.  Please give it at least a few weeks, unless you are having a horrible side effect.

If you have a horrible side effect - PLEASE write about it clearly in this forum, and also notify your doctor.

Hang in there, it will get better!

Perhaps prices are high in Switzerland (where mecch is based), but in general they are not that high.  People have shared the prices they pay for viraday and vonavir (another generic alternative to atripla) in this thread http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=36965.0  None were paying a few hundred per month and some were paying as little as $54 US.

So don't give up based on price.

In the name of humanity what a dramatic post!!!

If you just tested positive one month ago and recently started meds give it some time.  Side effects lessen over time.   If your adherent to taking your meds you are not slowly dying.

Don't be fancy, just get dancey

3 possible solutions for Atripla or Viraday -
« Reply #6 on: July 17, 2011, 05:11:57 am »
I know you can buy Viraday (Generic For Atripla) for $150/month at http://www.hivgenericdrugs.com .  I also know that they ship to Jordan, and Yemen as I have talked with some online "buddies" from there who order from them.  You should try them.  Also you should visit Gilead Sciences Patient Assistance Program here: http://www.rxassist.org/pap-info/company_detail.cfm?CmpId=23  and see if they have something set up for the middle east.  I believe Gilead has an office either in the Middle East or close to it and may have something in place.

Also try the Gilead Sciences site directly here: http://www.atripla.com/hiv-med-cost.aspx

Good luck

There is an organization that helps people in countries that don't have good access to HIV meds. I'm  not sure if they help individuals or if they do it through other organizations but maybe you can email them:

http://www.aidforaids.org/

Also, this site can help you search for places in your country that might offer help:
