Overeat to the max if ya wanna, drink too, have fun, fall asleep mid-sentence in a conversation, get jiggy, eat some more later, watch bad movies, get up during the night for another slice of whatever and otherwise be grateful to be alive. Oink.

Sorry to be ignorant about this, after all I am an Englishman, and it don’t happen over here in the UK, when is, and what is thanksgiving? But have a good one anyway.

John, it's very simple about Thanksgiving.

It's a day of heavy eating, football and semi-resting before the American nation launches officially into the Holiday Season AND  the day after, which is the biggest single orgiastic shopping day of the calendar year.

Originally the holiday grew out of when the Pilgrims and the Native Americans shared a Fall feast of thanksgiving together back in early Colonial days here. All of that has now pretty much passed into history except for school pageants and related commercial products + greeting cards.

In spite of that jaundiced report on my part, there are still some folks actually are genuinely grateful for much of what they have in life, and those include friends here, as you can see from the various threads.

So Happy Thanksgiving to you and here's to whatever you have in your life that you're grateful for.

Wait a minute, Andy.  John is English and that's his connection to Thanksgiving.  Back in 1620, 102 Englishmen and women sailed on the Mayflower to the New World seeking religious freedom.  They landed, first, in Provincetown (which you can see via capecodlivecam.com which places you in the center of town, the landing site being to the west on what became Commercial Street) and then, disliking what they found, 29 moved to Plymouth.  Interactions between Native Americans and the Pilgrims/Puritans over food eventually led to President Lincoln declaring a national holiday here on the third Thursday of November.  The foods more or less reflect things which they might, but probably didn't eat, such as turkey, squash, corn, pumpkin (in pies now).  I always loved the day because the weather is all about Fall, the colors yellow, orange, red (from fallen leaves).  The weather on the Cape, well, today, raw, pouring rain and nippy (40's).  Now you can filter in Andy's comments and get the whole picture.  Best, Win

Happy Thanksgiving!!  Just finished our Thanksgiving meal a few hours ago.  Louie's sister and nephew came over and had to leave early.  Nephew was on call for his job this afternoon.

I'm stuffed!!  Time to respond to some posts, create a few of my own, then start eating again later.

Hopefully all the ppl who celebrate Thanxgiving had a good one. Well I am off to work. I ventured into the Am I tested forum, and am amazed at all the worry warts, which explains a reason y I never go into that forum anymore.

I will agree with you on the 'am I?' area.  I took a look once and felt the 1980's coming right back.  The same concerns.  The same (lack of) information.  And the same red flag on some of the questions that they are being creative in posing them, perhaps using any number of screen names for whatever drove the same people to call us about being infected by cattle on the National Aids Hotline early Monday mornings.  Win
