My testosterone level was fine but I still tried the shots (hated them) and the patches.  Nothing happened.  Then my Dr and I were talking and we both realized the ED started when the depression set in.  Maybe you're depressed and don't know it.  Are you on antidepressants?  Since I've upped my dose, I've been somewhat randy lately.  It's a great feeling waking up in the middle of the night hard as a rock.

No way,,, anti depressant actually made you get hard? i thought that anti depressant makes you get ED....

i don't know if i am depressed,,, i might be,,, but i don't have those usually clinical signs, although i sometimes do think about if there is any way to get out this nightmare....

when i have sex, i do initially get semi hard, than goes soft and stays that way, and ends up being too embarrassed to do anything.

Personally I just had a fabulous erection and wank off session just an hour ago.

egello, you've had this issue for ages now along with copious threads on the subject.  If your doctor says he will give you an ED drug why haven't you tried it?  Why post a thread with "what can I do" when your doctor told you what you can do?

Look honey.  Your body only had 14 little soldiers working 9 months ago.  It's now busy doing things other than pumping blood in your dick.  Pop the damn ED pill and plan out your sex.  You have a live-in partner don't you?  That's what they're for.  Maybe you'll have to be satisfied only having an orgasm every 10 days instead of each day, at least for next 6-12 months.  Many of us have probably had to do this.

egello.

you're only in your 20's, right?  You're much too young to experience ED.  I just can't imagine ever feeling like that 30 years ago.  It just isn't natural so I would definitely do something about it.  If your testosterone levels are OK then it just possibly be the depression.  If you've never been clinically diagnosed before, then depression can be evasive and hard to detect.  It was for me.  I'm 57 now and it was only 4  years ago when I was first diagnosed.  I'm still trying to cope with it.   When I was prescribed my first antidepressant (prozak) I cut the dosage in half, thinking I could handle it.  It didn't work.  So don't be afraid to talk about depression to your Dr.  Try another pill (I've learned there is nothing wrong with antidepressants) and see if that helps you sex life.  What do you have to lose?

Hi Robert,,,

I read it in various places that antidepressant can actually be the cause of ED. but not Prozac?

egello, I think many SSRI anti-depressants can cause woody issues.  Not for everyone, but for many.  There are other options with other classes of anti-depressants.  Why are you not discussing this with a psychiatrist if you believe you have depression issues?

 Now egello.

I'm only talking about myself here.  I'm no Dr.  Like you, I was never aware of any depression in my life until just a few years ago, recovering from PCP and taking meds.  I knew things were different though and mentioned my symptoms (lethargy, ennui, apathy) to my Dr.  She prescribed the prozac.  It worked but then I noticed my sexual drive went out the window.  I figured it was due to the meds (same as yours...Reyataz, Norvir, Truvada).  Testosterone was normal.  We switched from the prozac to Effexor.  Taken at the dosaage proscribed, it seems to be doing the trick.  I still feel depressed every moring when I wake up but after I take the Effexor, I feel much better. ANd, like I said, I'm finally getting back in the mood, if you know what I mean.

YOu've gotton some good advice here.  Follow it up. YOu've got to do something.  You're only in your 20's and you don't have a sex drive.  That's not normal.  Talk to your Dr and make it clear to him what's happening in your life. Get that sex drive back.  It's too much a part of you to just let it wither away.

that old ARS song, Imaginary Lover

When played at 45 speed, sounds just like Stevie Nicks

Back to topic:

Never had that problem personally but have experienced in others.  One such person, (we will call him Ed) let me believe the reason he couldn't get it up was because I wasn't sexy enough.  I was staying in his house once while mine was being repaired for sale (he was out of state).  There was something in his fridge with a needle and looked like medications so I called him in Texas to ask if I should overnight his medication.  It was for ED and he got it in Vancouver and thought he told me about it.  Apparently, he can go 4 hours with one injection.  I think of it everytime a Cialis commercial comes on TV.  "If you have an erection lasting 4 hours or more, see your doctor."  No wait Ed, your doctor is a woman... see me  ;D Have the best day

There's never a cam around when we need one.

I've tried Viagra as I was having those issues, due to high blood pressure.  It worked but gave me a headache and I'm convinced it also lead to rectal bleeding, which is listed as one of the "rare" symptoms.

High blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes could cause ED, along with other issues.

It's good to get those checked, and make sure these are not part of the cause for your condition. And if you choose to go with an ED medication, try out Levitra if the doc's agree that it will work fine with your other medications.  Some HIV medications may have an interaction with other meds, so make sure you discuss with your doctor the best treatment to help you.

You are a yng'ish guy.  If your hormone levels are normal, then most likely, IMHO it is a mental issue!  Just like thinking about your grandmother can make you go soft (no comments from the peanut gallery please) constant worry about getting a woody will make you not be able to do it.  Talk to a shrink or somehow work out your issues dear and soon Mr Happy will be pointing up.

I have been with a few oh so hot men and for the life of me, couldn't get it up no matter what I did or thought!!
The guy was real understanding and blew it off that  I had too much to drink ( I didnt) I ended up giving him an hour long oral session that had him climbing the walls, so in that instance, all worked out fine for us.
For me, I know its just the deep feelings of being poz and that no matter how safe we are, I feel that I am going to infect him.
Just at the crucial moment, those thoughts always pop into my head and good bye hard weinie!!
Because of BP and cholesterol issues, I cant take any ED meds, so I just grin and become the best little bottom  or cock sucker/rimmer I can be!!
Sorry I was of no help...........

Just like thinking about your grandmother can make you go soft (no comments from the peanut gallery please)

I'm sorry, I just can't help it... I've seen pictures of my Grandmother when she was young. Remember those silent movie girls in beaded gowns ?  anyway, she was hot. Have the best day Michael  ;D

And whatever you do, do NOT use those poppers with Viagra OR YOU DIE

What about using Viagra with poppers? Is that okay? :D

Oddly, not too much before I was infected, I was asked to do a bondage photo shoot by a wetdream named Van Darkholme. He came to my apt in SF to do the shoot and despite taking a full tab of Cialis five minutes prior to arrival, I couldn't get an erection to save my life. He was sexy and a total gentleman. Very sweet! Talk about a humiliating experience for me. As mortified as I was, I shooed him out the door telling him, "It just isn't gonna happen". What was I THINKING? I find the whole thing funny now but then... oy vey! ::) I coulda kicked myself!

Suffice to say, sometimes NOTHING's gonna work!  ;D

Why does the photographer need an erection?  I thought that only the model needs one.

I had a testosterone count and I'm fine. I must hit the blank with bad pick up lines. For me I need mental stimulation before the physical takes an interest. I have no erectile problems  other than what my mind dictates to my pecker. Short story.....a guy once told me how he doesn't sleep with Poz guys because they have erectile problems due to combo pills. I told him "they" probably have erectile problems because idiots like him make comments like that. Hope you find a solution.

Funny, I didn't have them until he actually showed up for the shoot. And in spite of the fact that he was doing his best to arouse me... well, nothing.  :o   I basically chalk it up to being overwhelmingly intimidated by his good looks.

While I'm not at all surprised at your assumption, I'm afraid you may be mistaken... he actually came to my place to photograph me. Although, the photographer did still have an erection.   ;)

He's quite diversified in both his hobbies and his talents. Not to mention a really nice guy. It turned out to be a disappointing day for us both though there were a couple of good bondage pics.

GREAT NEWS to those who care...

I woke up with a major hard on today, first in MONTHS!!!!

Anyways, I am currently reading a book on Tui Na massaging and there was a section where they talk about all the meridian/qi points in the body. Last night I found that there were two points in the body that supposedly help with impotence, so I spent like 30 minutes acupressuring and massaging those points. I guess they must have done something....

 :-* :)

ah... life is ok again....
